The Book of Han records that in the second year of the Tianhan Dynasty, Li Guang's grandson Li Ling had no choice but to lead 5,000 infantry to attack the Xiongnu. On the way, Li Ling directly bumped into the 30,000 horses of the Xiongnu Shan Yu. After many days of fighting, the two sides suffered heavy losses, but Li Ling's army was ultimately defeated by the Xiongnu and had to surrender temporarily.
When Emperor Wu of Han learned of this, he rebuked Li Ling's mother and wife, and all the courtiers blamed Li Ling and fell into the well, but Sima Qian exonerated Li Ling. Sima Qian's impassioned remarks at that time completely angered Emperor Wu of Han. Emperor Wu of Han, after killing Li Ling's entire family, executed Sima Qian at palace punishment.
Sima Qian later had no regrets in the Book of Baoren An, and still spoke for Li Ling. It is said that Li Ling only led 5,000 infantry, and went deep into the bitter cold land to fight the Xiongnu, and it took more than ten days to fight, and the Xiongnu who were killed were very depressed. It's just that Li Ling and himself have ended up in such a fate, which is very sad! In addition to inner justice, the deep friendship between Sima Qian and Li Ling can be seen from the words.

From Li Guang to Li Ling, the three generations of the Li family sima qian all knew each other. In the "Biography of General Lee", there is no shortage of praise in the whole article. Sima Qian first borrowed the mouth of Emperor Wen of Han and said to Li Guang: "Unfortunately, when the son does not meet, if he is emperor Gao, the Marquis of Wanhu will be full of Daozai!"
It then details Li Guang's life: Li Guang led dozens of cavalry and thousands of Xiongnu in psychological warfare; Li Guang cleverly escaped after being captured; and Li Guang's miracle of shooting tigers. But these alone may not be enough for Sima Qian to admire, and more valuable is general Li as a person.
Li Guang was a clean and honest man, and when he received the reward, he must share it with his subordinates, and eat and drink with his subordinates. He led his troops on expeditions, and when he was hungry and thirsty, he always asked the soldiers to drink it first, and he did not drink it until everyone had finished drinking. When eating, he waited until all the soldiers had been given food.

There is this sentence in Li Guang's praise: His body is upright, and he does not act according to orders, and his body is not right, although he does not obey orders. But all this merit did not change the outcome of his becoming a tragic figure.
In the battle of the desert that shook for more than two thousand years, Huo Andi and Wei Qing slaughtered more than 70,000 Xiongnu soldiers and captured millions of cattle. The Xiongnu were driven further north, and there was no royal court in the south. Huo went to the sick to seal the wolf Juxu, the supreme honor.
And in the cheers of everyone, Li Guang drew his sword and killed himself. Because he was temporarily arranged a strange offensive route, he got lost and did not have time to participate in the war. This veteran who had fought the Xiongnu all his life, his self-esteem was greatly hurt. He said, "Oh my God!" Could it be providence?

At this point, the reasons why the literati of all generations admired Li Guang were already clear.
1. Tragedy. Chinese literati love tragedy, and most people have no ambition in their lives, and in tragic stories, people can find their own figure and empathize. Feng Tang is easy to be old, Li Guang is difficult to seal, is it not Ming Shi?
2. Personal charm. All the advantages of Li Guang's body met the standards of the gentleman's style. He is personally capable, loyal to the king and patriotic, and kind to others. After he committed suicide, the sergeants and sergeants wept, the people heard it, and the old and strong wept for it.
Sima Qian finally praised Li Guang with 8 words, saying, "Tao Li does not speak, and the next step is self-made." "Peach and Plum are there, silent, and people will be attracted by it and walk over on their own." After a long time, a path to it will be found. This should be the main reason why Li Guang is respected!
