The Art of Fugue (The Art of Fugue) is the last (unfinished) work of Bach's life. The work is regarded as a textbook of advanced counterpoints, which includes twenty-two fugues and cannons written on the same subject.
In his work, Bach skillfully uses imitation techniques such as inverted, immediate, canon, compound alignment, and triple alignment. In his final song, Bach wanted to use the letters "B", "A", "C", and "H" in his name as propositions for each of the four themes, and thus form a complete four-voice fugue, but unfortunately failed to complete it. The Art of Fugue is actually a musical testament left by the musical magnate to posterity.
My experience is that this work expresses the most vivid characteristics of Bach's art – that is, with the least amount of materials, through countless different forms of processing and change, to form a huge and stable musical architecture. Listening to these pieces, even if you don't know anything about technical terms such as fugue, counterpoint, polyphonic music, etc., you can experience a wonderful feeling of "quietness" in constant motion.
Like many of his other works, Bach did not indicate what instruments were used to play The Art of Fugue. Therefore, in accordance with the spirit of Baroque music, later generations of musicians have tried to interpret this masterpiece in various forms, and those who love chamber music may wish to choose to listen to the version performed by the St. Martin Chamber Orchestra.
The St. Martin Chamber Orchestra, founded and conducted by Sir Neville Marina, was hailed as the most successful chamber orchestra performance, and the Penguin Record Guide was rated three stars.
Founded in 1959, the St. Martin Chamber Orchestra was a pioneer in the Baroque revival of the 1960s. Today, the St. Martin Chamber Orchestra has grown into a first-class chamber orchestra with a flexible composition of the best minds, and their records have won a number of internationally renowned music awards, including 8 Edison Awards and a Canadian Music Award, in addition to the Knighthood Medal awarded by the Queen of the United Kingdom, the only orchestra in history to receive this award.
Sir Neville Marina used his ingenuity in this album carefully crafted by him and Andrew Davis to use a variety of different textures to distinguish fugues and cannons on keyboard instruments such as organs and harpsichords. Each example allows you to find an instrument arrangement that suits a particular movement. Overall, the speed is appropriate, the phrases are natural and not contrived, the rhythm is elastic, and Marina's playing style can be said to be extremely in line with the requirements of the original work.
The album also contains "Bach: The Dedication of Music" performed by the St. Martin Chamber Orchestra, "The Dedication of Music" and "The Art of Fugue" are both Bach's late works, and are also recognized as two "polyphonic music encyclopedias", where the solution of artistic skills can be called the peak of polyphonic music, with clear themes, endless musical creations, and rich and diverse expressions... All of them show Bach's profound musical thoughts.
Similar to The Art of Fugue, in The Dedication of Music, Marina still adopts his own version of the instrument: the strings consist of 3 solo violins, 3 solo violas, 1 solo cello, and flute, organ, and harpsichord; in addition to strings, there are also orchestras, English winds, oboes, and bassons, with a greater variation in timbre.
The song was so well completed that the musicians of Saint-Martin played it as if they were lifting a heavy weight. The recording effect of the record is also very good, the layers are clear, and the tone is crisp and bright.

3. The String Performance Version of The Art of Fugue, this version is the best in my heart. The two "main" forms of counterpoint music: khanon and fugue, if the former is a loop of a theme and I imitate and form a closed loop, then the latter is the construction and replacement of their own related and competing hierarchies. Based on this cognitive basis, the Saint-Martin Orchestra 'Fu' almost perfectly embodies this in the greatest possibility of being able to play strings.
