In 1971, Schiller was nominated for Best Director at the 43rd Academy Awards for his classic film Love Story. The film received a total of seven Oscar nominations that year. In the same year, "Love Story" won five Golden Globe Awards including Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Actress.

In addition to Love Story, he has directed Penpelope, Man of La Mancha, Silver Streak and other works. Schiller also served as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the host of the Oscars.

Arthur Schiller was born in Canada in 1923 to a Jewish family. Parents immigrated to Canada from Poland in 1912. His father made a living by opening a used instrument shop in Edmonton. Although the family is not very wealthy, the family's love of music and performance is not shallow. In an interview with the media, Schiller said that his love for this profession stemmed from his parents' influence on theater, music and literature.

He studied at the University of Yalba and the University of Toronto, where he obtained degrees in law, psychology and literature. During World War II, he served in the Canadian Air Force and after the war devoted himself to a career as a director. While doing live broadcasting on CBS Radio, Schiller was interested in acting. He directed TV series such as "Play House 90", "Hitchcock Theatre", "Gun Smoke", "Route 66" and other TV series, which were extremely popular in the television industry.

From 1989 to 1993, Schiller served as president of the Directors Guild of America. From 1993 to 1997, he served as President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2002 Schiller received the Oscar Jean Hershore Humanitarian Award for his contributions.
