On October 4 last year, my husband and I went on a 10-day fishing trip to Lake Footprints. It was late autumn, and the fishermen said that the fish was not easy to catch. On that trip, I caught 2 large colored trout. One of the colored trout is also a master angler, with a body length of 24.5 inches (62.23 cm). Masterangler is an "honorific title" for colored trout over 20 inches. The belly and gills of the painted trout show a beautiful orange-red color, which makes my husband very "jealous"! He said he had never caught such a large colored trout. This year, my husband and I went fishing in Footprint Lake again, what will we gain?

On June 18, 2018, it rained moderately, but it did not stop us from traveling. At 11:00 a.m., when everything was ready, my husband Clifford and I set off in a pickup truck and a motorhome and a small speedboat.

Fate, irreversible
At 5:30 p.m., we arrived at Footprint Lake. The rain has stopped, but it is still overcast, the clouds are thick, and the wind is 3 to 4. Affected by heavy rains, floods and other disasters, the fish in many lakes in Manitoba have changed their habits, and the lake water has risen a lot. According to anglers, today's catches are all duck eggs, not even the fish that bite the hook. When it was safe, we parked the motorhome, unloaded the speedboat, and started fishing.
We use Lua and fly fishing. Flying flies are made by my husband himself from the feathers of various birds. Winnipeg is home to north America's largest fish and hunting store, where you can buy a wide range of supplies and raw materials, even guns and ammunition. According to my husband, he has been playing Lua fishing for more than 40 years, and making his own bait should have a different meaning for him.
On the wide lake, there were only two of us. Even though it was already 7 p.m., we went fishing for 2 hours. It was almost the same fate —we didn't even see a fish shadow.
We went back to the motorhome and tasted the spaghetti we were good at. In the quiet of the night, with the sound of the lake and the sound of birds, we fell asleep.
Kung Fu pays off
It rained lightly again in the night. The next morning, although the rain was not strong, it had no intention of stopping. We had to huddle in the caravan, sipping strong coffee while looking out the window from time to time, expecting the rain to pass. God seemed to understand what I meant, the rain had stopped, it was still overcast, but it was no problem continuing our fishing trip.
There are still no fish, but my husband is very calm, leisurely enjoying the beauty of nature, almost falling asleep. I took pictures and admired the variety of creatures in nature, birds, eagles and Canadian mallards chirping happily, and hundreds of Canada geese flying in neat lines, which was spectacular.
Just as we were immersed in the beauty of nature, the gentleman suddenly shouted: The fish is hooked! Ha ha! Excitedly lifting the rod, walking the fish, and closing the line, a "master angle" rainbow trout was successfully caught. The rainbow trout was measured to be 22.2 inches long and was indeed a masterangle. It's really kung fu that lives up to the hard work! This fishing was still "time-critical" for me, and I started fishing again after taking a break in my motorhome at noon.
Footprint Lake is only 600 kilometers from the North Pole, so even at 10 p.m., the sky here is still bright. In the evening, the sky turned from cloudy to sunny, the sun showed a smiling face, and it was not until 11 o'clock in the evening that we ended the day of fishing with the sunset. Even though we only caught one big rainbow trout, we were satisfied, after all, we achieved a breakthrough of zero!
Canada, an angler's paradise
Canada is no surprise that it is an angler's paradise, with more than 10,000 lakes available for fishing in Manitoba alone. Canada's annual fishing season is long, with the best season being June to November. People drove different RVs and dragged speedboats of all sizes in all directions. Therefore, the number of fishing enthusiasts in Canada, the completeness of fishing tackle, and the largest cost are also the most in the world. Canadian ice fishing is also exciting. It's snowy outside, and the inside of the ice fishing house is full of fun. In the warm and comfortable ice fishing hut, you can enjoy fishing and eat fresh grilled fish that you have just caught.
During the three-day fishing trip, we harvested four large rainbow trout, all but one of which was left to enjoy, and the rest were released.
