Hong Kong's import and export value achieved double-digit growth in September

Hong Kong, 26 Oct (Xinhua) -- Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government released statistics on foreign merchandise trade on the 26th, showing that the overall value of Hong Kong's exports and imports in September 2021 rose by 16.5% and 23.5% respectively year-on-year.

Statistics show that the overall export value of goods in the first nine months of 2021 increased by 27.3% year-on-year. At the same time, the value of imported goods rose by 26.5% year-on-year.

A spokesman for the HKSAR Government said that even with the high base, the value of merchandise exports continued to increase significantly by 16.5% year-on-year in September. Exports to the mainland, the United States, the European Union and other major Asian markets rose markedly. Total merchandise trade in the first nine months of 2021 totalled HK$7,433.7 billion, 13.2% above the high of the same period in 2018.

A spokesman for the HKSAR Government expects that the future global economic recovery should continue to support external demand. The threat of the epidemic, especially the more contagious variant virus, will continue to create uncertainty about the global economic outlook. (End)
