If the ancient poets were cattle enough, they would often be given some very domineering titles, such as Li Bai's Immortal, Du Fu's Shisheng, Bai Juyi's Poetic Demon, and Wang Wei's Poetic Buddha, all of which were given by others. But there are some pretentious poets, others have not yet given him a "top hat", he himself put on it for himself, such as the Tang Dynasty poet Liu Changqing.
Liu Changqing, ZiWenfang, Tianbao Years Jinshi and the first, and later entered the career. Originally smooth sailing, but because of his too straight personality, he was degraded twice, and finally the official was assassinated in Suizhou, so later generations also called him Liu Suizhou. Liu Changqing loves to write poetry, especially good at writing five-word poems, for which he also gave himself a domineering title: Five Words Great Wall! He even said unashamedly: "Today's people call Shen, Song, Wang, and Du before, and later have Money, Lang, Liu, and Li." Li Jiayou and Lang Shiyuan had to drive together with Yu."
Liu Changqing wrote hundreds of poems in his lifetime, the most famous of which is "The Master of Furong Mountain in Fengxue", whose poems are as follows:
The mountains are far away at dusk, and the white houses are poor in the cold.
Chai Men smell the barking of dogs, and the wind and snow return to people on the night.
This five-word sentence has been selected in textbooks for many years, and its popularity obviously does not need to be said by the author. This poem was written by Liu Changqing when he was degraded in middle age, which can be regarded as his personal feelings. The whole poem creates for us an image of a wanderer wandering in the wind and rain, the whole text is purely depicted, simple and unpretentious verses, permeated with a faint sadness, but at the same time, because the style is elegant enough, so in the end it is sad and not hurt.
To be able to write such a poem, Liu Changqing is indeed not simple. But it is quite interesting that the level of this great poet has been controversial in later generations. Even at the poetry conference, the cultural celebrity Kang Zhen also commented sharply on him.
At that time, the poetry conference asked a very simple question, asking who was the poet who called himself the "Great Wall of Five Words"? The players on the field easily picked the answer. In the subsequent explanation, Kang Zhen seriously commented on Liu Changqing, he said this:
Liu Changqing's poems are generally a style, so posterity has evaluated him more than ten times in general similarities, and he has written about Cangshan, Qingshan, white house poverty and the like. Really powerful poets, such as Wang Wei, mainly write pastoral poems, but he can also write Sai poems and Ranger poems. A good, outstanding poet must have many styles. And Liu Changqing's talent is not high enough, the experience is not rich enough, although the five-character poem is well written, but it is not a first-class poet.
Such a comment is indeed relatively sharp, the host Dong Qing can only echo the smile, and the teacher Wang Liqun, who is sitting on the side, did not answer the call. This is also understandable, after all, for a Tang Dynasty poet whose poetry can be selected into the textbook, we seem to be accustomed to touting, and rarely say who is not good enough. But listening carefully to Kang Zhen's words, I really felt that it was quite reasonable.
Among Liu Changqing's poems, in addition to this poem "The Master of Furong Mountain in the Snow", the most famous ones are "Sending Lingche Shangren" and "Sending Fang Wai Shangren" and so on. The "Cangcang Bamboo Forest Temple, Late Bell Sound" and "The Sunset Cangshan Mountains are Far Away, the Sky Is Cold and the White House is Poor" in "Sending the Spirit to the Elder" are indeed very similar in artistic conception, and this similarity exists in a large number of his poems.
In fact, the level of Liu Changqing among ancient literati has always been quite controversial. "Approving the Sound of Tang Poems" said: Liu Changqing's seven and five words were slightly inconsistent. The same "Zhao ming zhan yan" also called Liu Changqing's poem "Si Rui Cai narrow", for the same reason as Kang Zhen said, saying that many of his poetic conceptions were too high to believe.

Of course, there are not many literati who praise Liu Changqing. Huang Shaofu and others called Liu Changqing's poetry clear and deep, worthy of the title of "Great Wall of Five Words", and Wang Shizhen, a great scholar of the Ming Dynasty, also admired him.
In fact, for the level of a poet, it is a matter of opinion, as long as you can say your own reasons, there is nothing wrong with it. But under normal circumstances, for a predecessor, especially a poet from the Tang Dynasty, there will not be much sharp evaluation for future generations. The reason why Liu Changqing will cause such a big controversy is probably that he has set himself a nickname of "Five Words Great Wall", and he often speaks wildly. In such a cultural atmosphere of humility in our country, this is naturally controversial.
As for the question of Kang Zhen and some literati saying that his poetry has a very narrow theme and a very similar style, it is indeed a fact. However, the author privately believes that the labels of first-class poets, second-rate poets, and even non-mainstream poets should still be less labeled. Imagine that when Du Fu was still alive, the poetic style was not liked by most Tang people, and at that time he could only be regarded as a "second-rate poet" at best! But later, with the admiration of a group of literati such as Yuan Shu and Bai Juyi, as the spiritual core of his poetry was discovered, he finally ascended to the throne of poetry.
