In the first year of Shao Sheng (1094), Su Shi was demoted to Huizhou. He has always lived in Jiayou Temple. Realizing that he had no hope of returning to the north, he planned to end his life in Huizhou, so he decided to build a new home. The new residence is located in Baihe Mountain, Shaosheng's new home was completed in four years, and the new house was short of water and needed to sink a well. When the well was dug to the depth of the shaft, it encountered a large stone, and after chiseling the large stone, it finally came out of the water. Su Shi was happy in his heart, so he wrote this interesting five-word ancient poem:

The sea country is trapped and steaming, and the new residence is high and cold.
It is easy to work in this place.
But the bitter river road is steep, and often ashamed of the waist soreness.
The alum is annoying to four people, and the layers of the alum are stacked.
There is a bluestone plate under it.
All day long but bursting fire, when to see the flying waves.
Feng I japonica and mash, Li Ru vertebrae and drill.
The rocks are sometimes exhausted, and I am not impressed.
The servants of this dynasty are happy, and the loess soil can be revived.
The morning bottle has snow milk, and the twilight urn is cold.
I was born like this, why not be difficult?
A spoonful is also a godsend, and the curved humerus has more than enough joy.

Huizhou is a coastal land, the climate is humid and hot, bothering me, the new home is built on the mountain, it looks cool and dry. With the hard work of running up and down the mountain, in exchange for the happiness of the cool and dry residence. The only distressing thing is that the road to fetch water in the lower river is steep and difficult, and I often get back pain and waist pain due to the fatigue of fetching water. Four people were hired to dig wells and let them dig the layers with great force. After ten days of sinking the well, when it reached the depth of the zhang, it encountered a large stone. All day long only to see the stone burst out of the spark, when can you see the spring splash?
So I took out good rice and good wine and entertained them, and asked them to work harder with a hammer and a drill in their hands. The stones in the well can finally be broken, and my heart is even firmer. This morning the servant announced that he had finally chiseled through the big stone, and could already see the wet soil below, and the horse was about to come out of the water! The water was clear in color, and by night, the cold well water was filled with a large urn.
My whole life has been like this well, wherever it goes, it is as difficult as a small hammer hitting a big stone. Nowadays, even if it is a spoonful of water, I have to thank God for his gift, sleep with his head resting on his arm, and feel very fond of it in his heart!
