Since the beginning of this year, I have twice gone to Henan Dengfengji Cottage, the first time to visit the Jishan Cottage Wall, which is what people call the Jishan Small Great Wall; the second time I found the tomb of the ancient Gaoshi Xu You, and circled around the tall burial tomb, I always felt a little incredible, a generation of ancient Gaoshi, who was Yao Shunyu's teacher, was known as the "Three Generations of Grandmasters", which shows that his position in the ancient times is particularly important.
According to legend, In his later years, Emperor Yao was preparing to cede the throne to Xu You, who was highly ambitious in the Qing Dynasty, but when he heard about this, Xu Yu refused for various reasons, and although Emperor Yao personally asked Xu You to take his place, Xu You chose to hide and ran to Jishan to enjoy purity alone. Because he had no desire for power, did not want to participate in the circle of the powerful, and did not want to be polluted by the atmosphere of the world, he went to the water to wash his ears and live in seclusion, unwilling to ask anything more.
Why did Xu Yu choose to live in seclusion on Mount Miyama? It is said that this is related to a legend that one day a fairy chicken descended from the sky and landed here, and it became a mountain range, which is today's Jishan Mountain Range. Mitsuru "chicken" was later changed to miyama's name. At that time, the mountain was densely forested, with springs, rivers, and wildflowers and wild fruits. Xu Yu knew that Jishan was an evolution of a fairy chicken, and he felt that this place must be a treasure of feng shui, and decided to choose this place to live in seclusion for the rest of his life.
The Jishan Mountains of Dengfeng City stretch from the southeastern part of Yichuan, the northeastern part of Ruyang and the northern junction of Ruzhou in the west, extend eastward along the northern edge of Ruzhou City and the southern edge of Dengfeng City, and reach the southern part of the western part of Yuzhou City and the northern edge of Yu County. Song Mountain to the north, Bears Ears Mountain to the west, Waifang Mountain to the southwest, and Funiu Mountain to the south belong to the mountainous system in the eastern part of the Qinling Mountains. It is conceivable that in ancient times, this place must have been beautiful and quiet, but after thousands of years, it has become what it is today.
We drove here, followed the miyama wall all the way in, until the newly built wall disappeared, and then walked a short distance along the forest path, and saw two buildings, looking up close, one was a temple, and the other was a living house. As we approached the two buildings, a stone door appeared on the right, and the three characters "Fairy Chicken Gate" were engraved on the head of the door, thus witnessing that it was related to the legend.
And Xu You's tomb is behind that temple, maybe this temple is dedicated to Xu You, but unfortunately we don't want to disturb the quiet here, but just circled around this big mound. Walking from the front, you will be greeted by a stone sign with "Xu You Tomb" written on it, "Dengfeng City Cultural Relics Protection Unit" on the top, and the bottom of the money. At the back of the tomb, there is also a tall stone stele with the inscription "Ancient Gaoshi Xu Yuzuka", perhaps this is an inscription erected by Xu Yu's descendants, and the specific situation cannot be inquired.
Who would have thought that more than four thousand years later, this ancient master would be buried at the top of Mount Mi, and the tomb was full of wild grass and trees, and perhaps he had found a very quiet place here, but what he did not expect was that this place was no longer what it used to be. No matter how history develops, Xu You's tomb has witnessed the changes in the history of the Central Plains and witnessed the vicissitudes of time and years.
