The "Xiangyanghong 18" ship completed the offshore investigation task

author:i nature i ocean

Recently, the "Xiangyanghong 18" ship affiliated to the First Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources (hereinafter referred to as the Ocean One) successfully completed the scientific expedition task of "2021 China's Offshore Comprehensive Opening Voyage - Summer Voyage" and docked at Qingdao Wharf in Shandong Province.

The survey area of this voyage is the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea and the Yangtze River Estuary, and under the premise of meeting the needs of relevant topics and operation stations, we pay attention to strengthening the continuity of observation data. The voyage task matched the relevant research work of the Bohai Strait Ecological Passage Field Scientific Observation and Research Station of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and realized the organic unity of the fixed continuous observation and movement normalization of the offshore marine environment in China.

Focusing on the main scientific issues of the resources and environment of the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea, this voyage focused on typical ecological areas such as the Yangtze River Estuary and the Bohai Sea Low Oxygen Zone, the Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass, and the Bohai Strait Ecological Passage, and carried out multidisciplinary comprehensive investigation and experiments such as marine hydrology, marine chemistry, marine biology, marine ecology, marine geology, geophysics and meteorology. A total of 65 station operations were completed, including seawater profile observation, bottom mass box operation, sediment gravity sampling, microplastic trawl, biological trawl, geophysical survey, meteorological and carbon dioxide system navigation observation, and aerosol sampling.

The survey results of this voyage will provide scientific theoretical support for researchers to further study the "source and sink pattern, marine environmental evolution and ecosystem response of the continental shelf area in eastern China under the dual pressure of human activities and global change", "material and energy transport in the Yellow Bohai Sea and its impact on the marine environment", "carbon sink effect in China's coastal waters", etc.

During the voyage, the members of the scientific expedition team overcame the unfavorable conditions such as bad sea conditions, successfully completed the scheduled tasks, reflected the hard-working and down-to-earth work style, trained and tempered a number of backbone marine scientific expeditions, and demonstrated the spirit of the scientific research personnel of the marine institute.
