Born in Shimen, Hunan, Cai Qingchuan went to Guangzhou in 1925 to study in the third phase of the Huangpu Military Academy and joined the Communist Party of China; after graduation, he joined the Grand Marshal Iron Armor Team, served as the deputy company commander of the Third Company, and participated in the Northern Expedition. In August 1927, Cai Qingchuan participated in the Nanchang Uprising, and was killed in the Battle of Sanheba in Tai Po, Guangdong, at the age of 24 in early October of the same year.
