The main hardware of the Artemis IV mission, the Gateway, the first space station to orbit the moon, is making progress in Turin, Italy. The Artemis IV mission is assembling major components for the Gateway space station in Turin, Italy. These include the Halo module and the I-Hab lunar module, which astronauts will transport to the space station during the mission.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will launch the Halo (a residential and logistical outpost) (see background in the middle of the image above) into lunar orbit as the first elements of the Gateway ahead of the Artemis IV mission.
During this mission, astronauts will launch Moon I-Hab (foreground above) aboard the Orion spacecraft and deliver it to Gateway. Lunar I-Hab, provided by the European Space Agency (ESA) and with a large amount of hardware provided by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), is one of the four Gateway modules that astronauts live and work while flying around the moon.

Last year, Thales Alenia Space completed the main welding of the Halo and began the preliminary manufacture of the Luna-1 module. The company is a subcontractor of Northrop Grumman's Halo project and the main contractor of ESA's Lunar Module project.
In addition to the Halo, the Luna 1 module and the power and propulsion elements, two other Gateway modules provided by ESA and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre form the core components of the space station. The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is providing Canadarm3 advanced external robotic systems and scientific instrument fixtures.

An international team of astronauts will live in the Moon's South Pole region, conduct scientific research and prepare for a mission from Gateway, where they will be the first humans to make their home in deep space.
