US media: 8 years later, Chinese mainland's chip production capacity ranks first in the world, and the United States only ranks fifth

author:The Internet is a messy show

The hollowing out of chips in the United States is already a recognized fact.

Because the United States has won about 50% of the global chip market share, but only about 10% of the chip manufacturing capacity, that is to say, at least 80% of the chips in the United States have to be manufactured outside the United States.

For example, to Chinese mainland, to Taiwan, and even to South Korea and other places to manufacture.

For example, Apple, Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD chips are all manufactured outside the United States, which makes the United States panic and feel that it is not safe.

So the United States has embarked on a plan to revitalize the chip manufacturing industry, planning to spend hundreds of billions of dollars in 10 years to return the chip manufacturing industry to the United States, and the United States will become a global chip manufacturing power again.

The first batch of subsidies is 53 billion US dollars, which has been launched, and 7 chip companies have received subsidies, and more than 10 chip factories are ready to go, TSMC, Micron, Samsung, Intel, GF, etc. have received money and started to build factories in the United States.

So can the United States return to the world's first place in chip manufacturing by doing so? Recently, the American Semiconductor Association (SIA) released a report comparing the development of the world's major semiconductor powers and regions in 2022 and 2032.

As shown in the chart below, the United States believes that by 2032 (eight years from now), the United States will grow more in the field below 10 nm, from the current 3% to 28%, second only to Taiwan, China, with 47%.

China's advanced production capacity below 10nm can grow to about 3%, but it lags far behind the United States.

In the fields of DRAM, NAND, 10-22nm, 28nm+, and DAO, the growth of the United States is limited, and even many will decline. In these areas, China's production capacity of many products will increase, especially the mature chips of 28nm+, which will reach a 37% share, far ahead of other countries and regions.

Therefore, by 2032, the overall chip production capacity of Chinese mainland (including DRAM, NAND memory chips) will become the world's first, accounting for about 21%. Then South Korea accounted for 19%, then Taiwan accounted for 17%, Japan accounted for 15%, and the United States only accounted for 14%, still far behind Chinese mainland.

However, although China's chip production capacity will account for 21%, becoming the world's first, it should be noted that this production capacity does not refer to the production capacity of local enterprises in Chinese mainland, after all, many overseas companies currently have wafer factories in Chinese mainland.

For example, SK hynix, Samsung, TSMC, intel, etc., all have wafer factories in China, and these capacities are also included in the total chip production capacity of Chinese mainland.

So although this data is worthy of our joy, but we also have to stay calm, only when the production capacity of our local enterprises continues to increase, dominate, and become the first in the world, is the real rise of Chinese chips, our local wafer companies still have a lot of room for improvement, what do you think?
