Recently, the Ministry of Education issued a notice announcing the first batch of 18 typical application cases of "artificial intelligence + higher education", and artificial intelligence practice cases from 18 universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Beijing Institute of Technology were selected, among them, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications's "'Code' - Intelligent Teaching Application Platform Empowered by Large Model", based on the iFLYTEK Xinghuo large model, empowers programming education, and the "Innovative Practice of Personalized English Teaching Based on AI Technology" of the Open University of China , using iFLYTEK's artificial intelligence technology to help English teaching.

To help the cultivation of software talents, BUPT explores the empowerment of programming teaching with large models

Software capabilities are closely related to all walks of life, especially with the continuous development of artificial intelligence, big data and other technologies, software capabilities have become the basic capabilities of enterprises, so the training of software talents is becoming more and more important.

Programming education has become the foundation for the cultivation of software talents, however, the shortage of teachers and the uneven ability of teachers are also one of the pain points of schools at all stages. Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (hereinafter referred to as BUPT) found that in the process of programming teaching in colleges and universities, students will encounter a large number of errors and difficulties when carrying out programming homework and exercises, and need 1-to-1 tutoring, but the limited teacher resources are completely unable to support a large number of needs, which leads to the inability to respond to students' needs in a timely manner, the difficulties cannot be solved, and students gradually lose their enthusiasm for learning, which greatly affects the effect of programming teaching.

It is understood that in order to solve this problem, BUPT has developed a programming teaching platform - "Code" based on the Xunfei Xinghuo large model, and took the lead in launching the exploration of large model empowerment programming teaching in colleges and universities. In December last year, BUPT launched a large-scale model empowerment programming teaching experiment based on "code", which was the first time in China.

In January this year, Xu Kun, President of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, demonstrated the "Code on Code" intelligent programming teaching application platform at the 2024 World Digital Education Conference, which received great responses.

Since its launch, "Code" has continued to collect data, accumulate experience, and carry out rapid iterative upgrade and evolution in sync with iFLYTEK Xinghuo, with an average of a major version upgrade every 2~3 months. As of April 15, 2024, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications has opened 107 courses and established 118 classes based on codes. The practice data shows that "Code Up" can provide high-quality/accurate tutoring for programming problems that account for more than 80% of the student group, which significantly reduces the pressure of teachers' tutoring.

The relevant person in charge of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications said that it is expected that by the end of this year, the accuracy rate of answering questions about programming novices will reach 80%-90%. Compared with large-scale model portals such as ChatGPT and programming plug-ins such as Github Copilot, "Code" inspires students to discover and solve code problems on their own, master programming knowledge and skills, rather than directly giving final answers, which is more in line with the requirements of programming teaching.

The national version of the product "iFLYTEK Xinghuo Code" is planned to be promoted nationwide this year, and more than 500 colleges and universities are planned to carry out teaching experiments throughout the year.

Helping English learning, covering more than 300,000 online learners every year

In the context of general artificial intelligence, "big model + education" not only affects school education, but also makes the educational vision of "everyone can learn, can learn anywhere, and can learn at any time" become a reality.

In the United States, several online education and learning platforms have been integrated into the GPT-4 model, including language learning platforms Duolingo and Speak, teaching platform Khan Academy, and online homework tutoring platform "Chegg". These platforms mainly use AI technology to develop personalized learning strategies to help improve student learning efficiency.

In China, "large model + education" is also changing the form of learning. The Open University of China is a new type of higher education institution directly under the Ministry of Education, supported by modern information technology, and open to the whole country. With more than 3 million English learners per year, its learning needs are diverse, and English teaching requires full interaction, timely feedback and personalized learning support services. Since December 2022, the university has cooperated with iFLYTEK's higher education product line to jointly create a new digital course based on knowledge graph based on the "Degree English" course as a pilot, and to build digital course resources such as AI virtual human courseware and intelligent Q&A.

Through iFLYTEK's artificial intelligence technology, the Open University of China not only creates a personalized intelligent environment for language learning, but also uses knowledge graphs to draw learner diagnostic portraits, relying on virtual teachers to create new teaching scenarios. After three years of teaching reform, the Open University of China has formed a smart teaching resource system, built 1 intelligent Q&A resource library, 1 adaptive course, completed 200 knowledge graph knowledge points, 141 virtual resource courseware, and 844 minutes of virtual resources, and formed mature working mechanisms such as intelligent means teaching application, teacher team formation and operation, teaching task assignment and evaluation, and teaching reform pilot mode.

Today, "large model + education" has been piloted and applied in 13 provincial branches of the National Open University system, and has been deeply applied to all teaching links.

AI+ education, with a market space of more than 600 billion yuan

According to the estimation of Galaxy Securities, under the trend of AI ushering in technological breakthroughs and rapid development, the domestic AI+ education market space exceeds 600 billion yuan. Among them, it is expected that a new round of digital education reform led by AI technology will drive an annual investment of 480 billion G-end, and in the To C market, with the further maturity of large model technology, application-side content and products, the total market size of intelligent education service equipment and general artificial intelligence training is expected to contribute about 150 billion yuan.
