April 26, 2024 marks the 17th National Malaria Day, and this year's theme is "Preventing the Retransmission of Malaria and Sustaining Elimination Gains". On April 22, the Yanqi County Center for Disease Control and Prevention and its member units launched an on-site publicity activity for the 2024 "National Malaria Day".
Malaria is a parasitic disease caused by Plasmodium parasite infection, and the common types are vivax malaria, malaria ovale, malaria and falciparum malaria. The main routes of infection include Anopheles mosquitoes bites with Plasmodium, blood-borne transmission, and mother-to-child transmission. The main symptoms of malaria are chills, high fever, sweating, headache, aching limbs and fatigue. After a certain incubation period, symptoms recur. In severe cases, malaria can cause complications such as anemia, hypoglycemia, acute renal failure, or acute pulmonary edema.
The main treatment for malaria is drug therapy, including artemisinin and its derivatives, quinoline derivatives and antifolates. Treatment of pregnant women, children, and people with drug-resistant infections requires special treatment. In addition, TCM is also effective in the treatment of malaria.
The activities were carried out by hanging banners, putting up publicity display boards, setting up consultation desks, distributing publicity materials, etc., and the staff explained to the public the knowledge of malaria infection sources, transmission routes, post-infection symptoms, prevention and treatment methods. A total of more than 600 copies of publicity materials were distributed in this publicity activity, and more than 80 people were consulted by the masses.
This theme publicity activity further popularized the knowledge of malaria prevention and control, improved the public's awareness of malaria prevention and control, and created a good atmosphere for the whole society to participate in preventing the import and retransmission of malaria.
Yanqi County Center for Disease Control and Prevention reminds that for the prevention of malaria infection, in addition to physical protection such as clothing covering, using mosquito nets, and spraying mosquito repellent, you can also reduce the risk of infection by taking preventive drugs.
