The National Plant Germplasm Resource Bank will be located on the west side of the National Botanical Garden (North Garden), with a total area of 60,000 square meters and a total construction area of 11,000 square meters, planning to collect 70,000 plant germplasm resources from all over the world to achieve full coverage of rare and endangered plants in China. The types of preserved plant resources include plant seeds, test-tube seedlings, DNA, live plant plants, pollen and spores, plant tissues, organs, plant microorganisms, etc. The construction of automatic library, manual library, ultra-low temperature preservation library, germplasm data information management area, rare and endangered plant demonstration area, scientific research area, tourist exhibition area and other areas, set collection and storage, research and utilization, popular science display, international exchange and other functions in one.

It is reported that the plant germplasm resource bank is the main body of species diversity and genetic diversity, and is also an important resource to solve the food, energy and environmental crises and effectively respond to the adverse effects of global climate change on the ecosystem.
The National Plant Germplasm Resources Bank has established germplasm resources collection and processing areas, including seed cleaning, seed counting, X-ray quality testing, storage and storage, germination test, specimen identification, etc. In addition to the preservation of germplasm resources, scientific research on plant taxonomy, seed biology, restoration ecology and other aspects will be carried out in the scientific research area, so as to provide technical support for the operation of the germplasm resource bank and develop and apply the conservation of plant resources. At the same time, the data center collects and summarizes the world's plant resources data to serve the protection and application of national strategic plant resources.

At present, the National Botanical Garden has carried out the collection of plant germplasm in the Sanbei region, and collected the germplasm of more than 500 species of plants, including green linden, yellow barberry and other wild plants under national key protection. The collected germplasm resources have been standardized and managed in the preparatory bank, and the first batch of seeds is planned to be stored in the warehouse when it is planned to operate in 2026. In addition, the National Plant Germplasm Resource Bank will also have an exhibition area, which is open to visitors free of charge all year round, and popularizes germplasm resource knowledge to the public through intelligent display and other means.
