Foreword

The art of regeneration is a life force

Text / Niu Kecheng

In the spring, everything recovers. The sun is warm and the wind is light, the grass grows and the warbler flies, the red stamen is soft, the willows are piled up with smoke, and the earth is full of vitality. At this time, we can see through the selection of "regenerative art" observers: embroidery, leather goods, willow weaving, clay sculptures, which have disappeared in daily life, are either picked up again, or integrated into new materials, crafts, and designs and refreshed; the elegant lifestyle and interest of classical architecture are embedded in the modern urban forest, whether it is the reuse of old bricks and tiles or the recreation of leisurely spaces, they all reproduce the spiritual realm of "heart and earth"; Electronic products, which are defined as garbage, have been reassembled to carry historical memories, and the old look has been renewed...... which is a kind of life force that circulates Guangyu, and rejuvenates the world from the four seasons of nature.

The topic of "regeneration" is warm, and it walks with the sun, developing towards new life and new hope. Zhou Dunyi, a physicist in the Northern Song Dynasty, "did not remove the grass in front of the window full of green", in order to "observe the biometeorology of heaven and earth", he not only saw the thick green of the window, but also saw the decay and new green, and saw the regeneration process of "the grass sprouts in early February" that Han Yu had seen, and experienced the aesthetic pleasure of spring with heaven and earth. This is also the charm of regenerative art.

At the same time, "regeneration" is also a heavy topic, because everything that is regenerated has experienced a bleak moment in life: plants and trees have been ravaged by harsh winters, craftsmanship is on the verge of extinction, elegant life is being destroyed by the increasing pace of life, and old things are discarded in the garbage heap without seeing the light of day. Regeneration requires a suitable environment, just as plant regeneration needs spring breeze and spring rain. The reality we have to face is: industrial civilization has replaced the agricultural living environment and social structure of the integration of nature and man, the urbanization process not only makes the population flow into the city but also makes people's value and emotions lose contact with the land, global integration is devouring the cultural diversity in every corner of the world, the entertainment carnival of the consumption era has swept the biological reality of people, the SORA simulation reality under the soaring digital technology is becoming a real reality...... the cultural soil of "regeneration" is becoming increasingly poor.

However, "regeneration" is precisely the brewing of energy from the ruins of the destroyed original order, so that the former life can regain a new form. The art of regeneration implements a firm perspective and attitude towards the old, the past, and the existence of the world: everything is not gone, everything is renewable. It's a heart-warming force and an energy that makes the world a better place. As a result, from materials to techniques, from utensils to styles, from styles to aesthetics, from ideas to lifestyles, the accumulated traditions have been reborn in the contemporary environment.

At the same time, regeneration is also determined by the choices of contemporary people, and those things that have disappeared or interrupted, once they enter the field of contemporary life, echo the emotions and needs of the generation, and will be reborn under the cultivation of "epochality". The European Renaissance, a regenerative event in the history of art, shows that it is not a copy of the ancient Greco-Roman original, but a creative use of Greco-Roman philosophical, literary and artistic classics in the humanist spirit of the 15th century. New artistic life takes place in the pastoral land cultivated by generations, and grows up under the sunshine and rain of the new era.

The art of regeneration is like a spring breeze in February, and everything can be expected.
