Looking down, each of these insects is about 1-2 centimeters long, about the same thickness as a water refill, and the body is half blue, half golden, and has a short layer of black fine hairs on the body surface, which is indeed somewhat similar to caterpillars.

The osmanthus trees in the flower beds on the left and right sides of the unit door are luxuriant, and many osmanthus flowers (four seasons osmanthus) have bloomed, and you can smell the fragrance of osmanthus flowers from afar. However, there are many of these insects at the roots, at the broken points of the branches, and on the backs of some leaves.
Meiyuan Pavilion community is not big, there are a total of 5 houses, each is divided into 3 units, the reporter visited and found that the green belt in front of each unit building in the community is planted with several osmanthus trees, and the insect infestation of other building units is exactly the same as 1.
Unlike in front of the unit building, there are no osmanthus trees planted on the back of the building. On the first floor of this side is a small warehouse, and in front of the door, the reporter did not find this insect on the ground. In other green areas of the community that are not planted with osmanthus trees, the reporter did not find any obvious insect load.

Subsequently, the reporter contacted the manager of the sanitize company, who said that the company's main business is mosquito and fly sanitize, and sanitize this kind of insect is the first time. Last Saturday, the team used 1 liter of chlorpyrifos stock solution to sanitize the entrance of the community unit building and the osmanthus tree in about one hour.
"Some of the bugs we see now may be corpses that have fallen from trees, and this medicine can indeed sanitize some bugs, but it cannot cure them." As for why the bugs are still "active" after sanitizing, Manager Liu explained.
"There were more before sanitizing, and I swept half a dustpan at that time. Jin Long said that if the insect population is not controlled in the future, it will consider sanitizing again.

Liu Liwei, an expert from the Zhejiang Natural Museum, further confirmed that these insects are the larvae of osmanthus leaf bees, "which do not cause physical discomfort, but are mainly a visual impact." ”
Liu Liwei mentioned that the osmanthus leaf bee is a generation a year, and in March and April, the weather warms up and pupates out of the earth, and the adults lay eggs on the osmanthus leaves after mating, and the larvae feed on it, "It is a pest for the osmanthus tree, but if it is properly gnawed, the harm is not great." ”

"In general, Hangzhou has appeared relatively little in recent years. Liu Liwei analyzed that the sudden appearance of a large number of osmanthus leaf bees in Meiyuan Pavilion this year may be because the climate last year was more suitable for population preservation and the hatching rate of eggs was high.
From mid-April to early May, the larvae are at their peak, after which they will pupate in the soil and come out to eat the osmanthus leaves at the end of March. Liu Liwei said.
If the owner really can't tolerate these small insects, Liu Xinhong suggested that green agents such as larvaluramide, avermectin or matrine can be used to sanitize, "Osmanthus leaf bees have poor drug resistance, and they can be eliminated with ordinary insecticides." ”
