Set up the background

National Security Education Day is a holiday established to enhance the national security awareness of the whole people and safeguard national security. On July 1, 2015, the 15th Session of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress passed the National Security Law of the People's Republic of China, which stipulates that April 15 of each year is National Security Education Day.

What is National Security?

The National Security Law of the People's Republic of China, which came into effect on 1 July 2015, clearly states that national security refers to the state of state power, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, people's well-being, sustainable economic and social development, and other major national interests in a state that is relatively free from danger and internal and external threats, as well as the ability to ensure a state of sustained security.

Areas of national security

The 16 key areas of national security include: political security, military security, homeland security, economic security, cultural security, biological security, cyber security, social security, scientific and technological security, ecological security, resource security, nuclear security, overseas interests security, space security, deep-sea security, polar security, etc.

In November 2015, the national security organs issued a notice to the public, 12339, which is a telephone number for receiving reports of clues on situations endangering the national security of the People's Republic of China discovered by individuals and organizations.

If citizens and organizations discover acts that endanger the state, they should call the reporting hotline 12339 to report to the local national security bureau, or log on to the national security organs' Internet reporting platform to report www.12339.gov.cn, or report to the public security organs and other other state organs and organizations, and the relevant state organs and organizations will immediately transfer them to the local national security bureau for handling. Where the state security organs keep the informant strictly confidential, and upon investigation it is found to be true, the informant is to be rewarded on the basis of their importance. Where they intentionally fabricate, make false reports, or falsely accuse and frame others, causing negative consequences, their legal responsibility is to be pursued in accordance with law.
