On April 11, Beijing time, the 77th Cannes Film Festival announced the shortlist, and many Chinese-language films were shortlisted.

The movie "Merry Generation" directed by Jia Zhangke and starring Zhao Tao was shortlisted for the main competition unit. This is Jia Zhangke's tenth feature film, the story takes place between 2001 and 2022, with the experience of lovers Qiaoqiao and Guo Bin in a small town in northern China as the main line, telling the life story of them and all kinds of grassroots people around them in the first 20 years of the new century, depicting the indomitable enterprising spirit of a generation in the context of social change.

The movie "Dog Formation" directed by Guan Hu and starring Peng Yuyan, Tong Liya and others was shortlisted for the "A Concern" unit. The film tells the story of Erlang (played by Peng Yuyan), a member of the folk dog fighting team, who is awakened by a stray dog to compassion for life, so as to save the stray dog.

Directed by Chen Kexin and starring Zhang Ziyi and Lei Jiayin, "Sauce Garden Lane" was shortlisted for the non-competition screening unit. "Sauce Garden Lane" is adapted from the case of killing a husband in Sauce Garden Lane, one of the "Four Strange Cases in Shanghai of the Republic of China", which tells the story of Zhan Zhou's murder of her husband Zhan Yunying because she was mistreated by her husband.

Directed by Zheng Baorui and starring Louis Koo, Sammo Hung, Ren Xianqi and others, "The Siege of the Kowloon Walled City" was shortlisted for the "Midnight Screening" unit of the Cannes Film Festival. The film tells the story of a hot-blooded young man and a group of walled brothers in the Kowloon Walled City, the notorious "three regardless" zone in Hong Kong in the 80s of the 20th century. It is reported that the last Hong Kong film shortlisted for the "Midnight Screening" was Johnny To's "Blind Detective". "The Siege of the Kowloon Walled City" has been scheduled to be released nationwide on May 1.
