At 5 p.m. on April 11, the Organizing Committee of the Cannes International Film Festival announced the first batch of shortlisted films for the 77th Cannes International Film Festival.

In the official announcement of the shortlisted film list, Jia Zhangke's new film "Merry Generation" was shortlisted for the main competition unit, which is the sixth time that Jia Zhangke has been shortlisted for the main competition unit in Cannes.

Following "Ren Yao", "Tale of Twenty-Four Cities", "Heaven is Destined", "Mountains and Rivers" and "Children of the Rivers and Lakes", Jia Zhangke's works were shortlisted for the Cannes main competition unit for the sixth time, and he previously won the Best Screenplay Award for "Heaven is Destined".

In addition, a total of 4 Chinese films in the film list announced this time were shortlisted or participated in the screening: Jia Zhangke's "Merry Generation" was shortlisted for the main competition unit, Guan Hu's "Dog Formation" was shortlisted for a kind of attention unit, Chen Kexin's "Sauce Garden Lane" was screened in the non-competition unit, and Zheng Baorui's "The Siege of Kowloon Walled City" was screened in the midnight screening unit.

The unnamed documentary of Lou Ye, which was previously rumored to be shortlisted, did not appear in the film list.

This year's opening film is "Act II" directed by Quentin Dupie.
