According to China Weather Network, from January 31 to February 5, the central and eastern regions will have the longest and most extensive rain and snow weather process since the beginning of winter, and the snowfall in Henan, Shandong, Hubei and other places is extreme, and the temperature in most areas will also drop significantly.

Starting from January 31, the central and eastern parts of the mainland will experience the largest and longest rain and snow weather process since this winter, which will also be the most complicated spring weather since 2008.

Central Meteorological Observatory: Outrageous, see you for the first time! What's going on?

Zhengzhou's snowfall forecast map shocked the Central Meteorological Observatory

According to the WeChat official account of the China Meteorological Administration, it is expected that from January 31 to February 5, the central and eastern regions of the mainland will enter the longest and most extensive rain, snow and freezing weather process since the beginning of winter. 10 provinces will have blizzard or heavy snowfall, Henan, Hebei, Shandong, Liaoning, Hubei and other places of daily precipitation or cumulative snowfall is extreme, Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Hunan, Guizhou 5 provinces will have freezing rain.

Among them, Henan, the transportation hub, as the snowfall center of this process, has an unusually large amount of snowfall. On the morning of January 30, the Central Meteorological Observatory released a precipitation forecast map of Zhengzhou City on Weibo, calling out: "The snowfall forecast map of Zhengzhou, Henan Province, such an outrageous forecast map is the first time I have seen it!" The time range of the map forecast is from 8 o'clock on January 31 to 8 o'clock on February 5, forecasting the possible snowfall in various districts and counties of Zhengzhou in the next five days.

On the 30th, #Zhengzhou snowfall forecast map is all black# on the hot search.

Central Meteorological Observatory: Outrageous, see you for the first time! What's going on?

Why is Zhengzhou's forecast map completely black? According to China Weather Weibo, the round of snowfall in Zhengzhou that began on January 31 will really be obvious. Henan is one of the core affected areas of the rain and snow process in the central and eastern parts of the country, with a long duration of rain and snow and a large cumulative precipitation! Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 are the cumulative precipitation forecast maps of Zhengzhou and Henan provinces, so they are completely black.

The amount of rain and snow in many places is extreme

It will have a great impact on the Spring Festival traffic

"This is likely to be the most extensive precipitation process since the beginning of winter, which will surpass the rain and snow in the south around January 20, and will also be more extensive and snowy than the cold wave rain and snow in mid-December last year. According to Sun Jun, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, Henan, Shandong, Hubei and southern Hebei have a large amount of snowfall, which is extreme compared with the same period in history.

Sun Jun said that the precipitation phase of this process is relatively complex, with rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain in some places. It is expected that from February 1 to 4, freezing rain will occur in parts of southern Henan, Hubei, northern Anhui, central and northern Hunan, and eastern Guizhou. However, on the whole, the duration, low temperature intensity and freezing range of the rain and snow process are not as good as those of the low temperature rain and snow freezing process in southern China in early 2008.

What is Freezing Rain?

Freezing rain is a precipitation phenomenon that occurs in a specific weather context. In layman's terms, freezing rain means that the rain freezes into ice immediately when it falls on the ground and attachments, that is to say, it is rain when it is in the sky, but it condenses into ice when it falls. Some areas in the southern part of the mainland call the freezing rain "ice ling", and the northern region calls it "earth oil".

What are the dangers of freezing rain?

When the freezing rain freezes on the wire, the wire shrinks when it is cold, coupled with the weight of the ice itself and the effect of the wind, the wire will be in danger of breaking;

When freezing rain occurs on the road, traffic will be blocked due to the freezing ground, which will also increase the chance of traffic accidents.

Freezing rain occurs in farmland and can freeze the winter wheat that has returned to green, or freeze the seedlings of crops sown in early spring. In addition, it can also destroy young forests and frostbitten fruit trees on a large scale.

How to prevent it?

Personal travel: In freezing and rainy weather, the temperature is low, pay attention to cold protection and keep warm, especially the elderly, children and people with weak constitution should try to go out as much as possible. Due to the icy and slippery road surface, take anti-skid measures when going out, and pay attention to stay away from or avoid motor vehicles and electric vehicles.

Transportation: Drivers should drive cautiously and cautiously, do not overtake, accelerate, make sharp turns or emergency braking, and install tire snow chains in time; bridge ventilation intersections, slopes and other dangerous road sections that are easy to freeze and slip should be fully prepared with anti-skid sand, industrial salt and other rescue materials; and actively carry out road salt and de-icing work.

Agriculture: For some farmland seedlings, it is best to pull on plastic sheds or cover and insulate to avoid direct contact with freezing rain, and the branches of fruit trees should be wrapped with plastic film in time to prevent a large amount of freezing.

In terms of electric power and communications, strengthen the repair and maintenance of electric wires, telephone lines and iron towers, and promptly scrape off the ice attached to them; strengthen the inspection of key hidden dangers of freezing rain and snow poles and roads and the presence of rusty hanging lines; strengthen the inspection of base stations in densely populated areas and important traffic roads, and prevent base stations from tilting or collapsing due to snow and ice.

In the next 10 days, the number of precipitation days in Huanghuai and southern China will reach 6 to 9 days, and the cumulative precipitation will be abnormally high. The temperature in the southeast of Northwest China, Huanghuai, Jianghan, and western Jiangnan will be 1°C to 3°C lower than that of the same period in normal years, and the temperature in most other parts of the central and eastern regions will be close to normal or slightly higher.

Before the Spring Festival, a wide range of rain and snow hit

Economic Daily: Ensure that the way home is safe and smooth

Judging from the current forecast, the duration, low temperature intensity, and freezing range of this rain and snow freezing are not as good as in 2008. More importantly, after more than ten years of development, the capacity and level of the mainland's transportation industry have been greatly improved.

In terms of total volume, the total mileage of expressways opened to traffic has increased from 60,000 kilometers in 2008 to 177,000 kilometers by the end of 2022, and the operating mileage of high-speed railways has increased from 672 kilometers in 2008 to 45,000 kilometers by the end of 2023. Charging and other facilities are more complete. The ability of traffic to cope with extreme weather conditions has been significantly enhanced.

Just because things are better doesn't mean you can let your guard down. Winter is an accident-prone season, and with bad weather and surging crowds, it still needs to be paid close attention. The Ministry of Transport and other departments have jointly issued a notice to conscientiously prevent and respond to extreme weather. Transportation, meteorology, marine and other departments should strengthen coordination and communication, and do a good job of sharing bad weather information and early warning reminders through multiple channels and methods;

Another outstanding feature of this year's Spring Festival is that self-driving travel accounts for more than eighty percent. Departments such as transportation, publicity, sanitation, and commerce should continue to do a good job in providing relevant information services, snow removal and obstacle removal, oil and electricity security, and food and beverage supply. Passengers should also make adequate preparations before traveling, check the weather, make plans, and maintain vehicles to ensure safety on the road. If you encounter sudden and extreme situations, don't panic, cooperate with relevant staff to do a good job of emergency response, and go home safely for the New Year.
