Following the success of the Platan Hotel and its surrounding area, Hungarian interior designer Zoltan Varro has created a new wellness and relaxation space for the hotel, bringing a unique new experience to the resort.

▼ Project Overview

The project has completely renovated the existing bistro, restaurant and hotel buildings on the site to create an elegant and luxurious leisure environment for guests. When conceiving the project, the designers identified exactly the three most important elements of the site that needed to be grasped and emphasized, as well as the nearby historic Esterhazy Palace, the natural beauty of the lake, and the cuisine prepared by Michelin-starred chef Istvan Pesti.

In contrast to the baroque elegance of the hotel's interior, the spa next to the hotel has a more modern and exclusive attitude. In the area that once served as a moat, two rectangular volumes are embedded with mirrored facades that face the old castle. The volume accommodates the recreational space, while at the same time blocking the realization of the visitors passing by the bridge. Strategically placed reflective windows allow guests to relax in the garden without being disturbed by visitors from outside the building, who can only see the reflection of the castle's stone walls in the mirror.

Inspired by contemporary design concepts, the designers repurposed heritage sites that no longer function, creating a "camouflaged" spa space within an ancient moat – a first of its kind in the world. The grounds are only accessible to guests of the Plantan Hotel, but at the same time can be viewed by the surrounding tourists. The project creates a unique feel that both reflects the heritage of the site in which it is located, while constructing a comfortable experience of isolation in an open, publicly visible space.
