匈牙利在行政上划分为首都和19个州(counties,单数:county)。 州再进一步划分为174个区(districts,单数:district),首都布达佩斯则划分为23个分区(districts,单数:district)。 25个城市享有州级行政权(cities with county rights,单数: city with county rights),或称州级市。 这些市的政府拥有更广泛的权力,但它们不是独立的领土单位。 1950年至2022年间,州曾被称为county。 现名county原是1950年以前使用的古称,从2023年1月1日起恢复使用。

1. The capital city of Budapest (Hungarian: Budapest főváros), commonly known as Budapest, is the capital of Hungary, the country's main political, commercial, transportation center and largest city, and is also considered an important relay station in Central Europe. Budapest's population peaked at 2.07 million in the mid-1980s and now stands at 3,303,786 in the Greater Budapest Metropolitan Area, with about 1.7 million inhabitants living in Budapest, making the city the ninth largest city in the European Union. Budapest is made up of three formerly independent cities, which merged into Budapest in 1873. On the plain east of the Danube is Pest, which occupies 2/3 of the city's area. In the western mountains are Buda and Old Buda. These two urban areas occupy 1/3 of the city's area.

2. Bács-Kiskun megye (Hungarian: Bács-Kiskun megye) is a southern Hungarian state bordering Serbia. With an area of 8,445 square kilometers, it is the largest state in the country by area. It has a population of 513,687. The capital is Kecskemét. It is divided into 11 districts.

3. Baranya (Hungarian: Baranya megye) is a southern Hungarian oblast, bordered by Croatia to the south and partly bordered by the Drava River. It has an area of 4,430 square kilometers and a population of 360,704. The capital is Pecs. It is part of the Barlanja region. It is divided into 10 districts.
