On April 19, a Chinese automaker signed an agreement to produce electric vehicles locally in the Barcelona Free Trade Zone in Spain, marking the first time a Chinese automaker has set up a factory in Europe. The car manufacturing plant in Barcelona originally belonged to a Japanese automaker and has an annual production capacity of about 200,000 units. At one point when it closed in 2021, more than 2,000 workers lost their jobs. In the third quarter of this year, the factory is expected to start again, and Chinese car companies will continue to empower and upgrade the local electric vehicle industry.
