"Last month, during their meeting in San Francisco, the Chinese and US heads of state agreed to resume high-level communication between the two militaries, a working meeting between the Chinese and US defense ministries, a meeting of the China-US maritime military security consultation mechanism, and a conference call between the leaders of the Chinese and US military theaters on the basis of equality and respect. On the evening of 21 December, Liu Zhenli, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of staff of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission, had a video call with Brown Brown, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States Armed Forces, and had a frank and in-depth exchange of views on the implementation of the important consensus on the military and issues of common concern at the San Francisco summit between the two heads of state, and achieved positive and constructive results. In the next step, we hope that the United States and China will work in the same direction and earnestly promote the healthy and stable development of the relations between the two militaries on the basis of equality and respect. Regarding the specific exchange projects, the defense departments of the two countries are maintaining communication and coordination, and we will release information in due course. ”
The key point here is naturally to "achieve positive and constructive results," after all, it has been rare to hear such positive words in the news about the Chinese and US militaries for some time.
First of all, we should keep in mind Chairman Mao's words: "Imperialists are very arrogant, and where they can be unreasonable, they must be unreasonable, but if they are reasonable, they are forced to do so." From this, we can understand why there are "positive and constructive results".
To put it simply, at present, the battlefields in Ukraine and the Middle East have left the United States without skills, especially Israel, which must be saved, and if the Western Pacific does not slow down, it will really be unbearable, so it can only be temporarily compromised. In particular, the Yemeni Houthis did not speak of martial morality and openly intercepted merchant ships bound for Israel, forcing the US military to also organize a "Red Sea Escort Alliance", but few allies were willing to appreciate their faces, and the US military had to take it on its own.
On 19 December, the USS Carl Vinson, the last mobile carrier formation of the US military, abandoned its mission in the Philippines and left the South China Sea for the Middle East. It is worth mentioning that on the same day, Ali Houthi, one of the leaders of the Houthis in Yemen, was interviewed by Iranian media, mentioning that "there will be no embarrassment of Chinese freighters", adding that "as long as we do not get involved with the pro-Israel camp led by the United States, there is no need to worry about security interests in the Red Sea region."
That's what the Houthis say, and that's what they do. For example, when the Red Sea crisis was tense and the four major international shipping groups had to avoid the Red Sea route and go around the Cape of Good Hope, the cargo ship from Hong Kong, China still sailed smoothly through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on time, and the whole world saw it. Coincidentally, the ship was called the "Galaxy".
In this comparison, it can also be seen that the current US military is under too much pressure to the point where it has to give in. When a person is too busy to take care of things, he often has to put aside those things that are not important or uncertain. Therefore, the U.S. military has now chosen to ease the Western Pacific, and the outside world has roughly explored its bottom line. It is not difficult to understand that the US military has made such a choice, and it must be closely related to the changes in the PLA in recent years.
In July, a picture with the U.S. Navy's logo and titled "Comparison of the PLA Navy and the U.S. Navy" circulated on social networks in China and the United States, as well as around the world, pointing out that China's shipbuilding capacity is 232 times that of the United States: China's production capacity is more than 23.2 million tons, while the United States has less than 100,000 tons. The worst thing is that this data is not made up by some unknown gossip. On September 14, a Pentagon spokesman admitted that the images belonged to a leak of internal intelligence documents and confirmed the authenticity of the data.
When China's naval strength reaches this level, it is natural to understand why, under heavy pressure, the US military is the first to lose its side in the Western Pacific deployment. However, we should also recognize that "constructive results" are likely to be temporary. When the US military recovers, even if it is a little angry, it will still resolutely make trouble, either in the Taiwan Strait or in the South China Sea.
After all, there are still fundamental conflicts of interest between the Chinese and US militaries on certain key issues, which cannot be resolved by simply resuming military communication. What's more, in the battle of wits and courage with the Americans over the years, the most profound experience we can sum up is that we should not believe any punctuation marks they say without substantive guarantees. In its period of reprisal, we cannot be idle. Only when the "dumplings" reach a certain level, will the US military give up more decisively next time.
