IT Home reported on December 24 that GGII (Advanced Industry Research Institute) recently released the 2024 China Blade Lithium Battery Market Research and Analysis Report. According to the data, China's blade battery shipments this year exceeded 140GWh, mainly concentrated in Fodi Battery, Honeycomb Energy and other enterprises.

In terms of production capacity and number of enterprises, GGII predicts that China's newly planned blade cell production capacity will exceed 200GWh in the next two years, and more than 10 battery companies (including those built by OEMs) will deploy blade batteries.

At present, blade batteries are mainly used in models of BYD, GAC New Energy, Hongqi, Zeekr, Skyworth Automobile, Tesla and other brands. Compared with traditional size batteries, most of them have a length-to-height ratio of more than 7, and most of them use lamination technology. Due to its innovative structure, blade batteries are more suitable for integrated module processes.

According to GGII's analysis, in the field of energy storage, blade batteries are more suitable for non-modular products, which can better achieve the stacking effect (reduce costs and increase the grouping rate), and have better flexibility when integrating battery clusters and systems. In the field of powertrains, battery cells in module platforms will tend to become larger-scale in the future, and the newly developed PHEV models of various OEMs are expected to be concentrated in "blades".

In addition, in the future, with the completion of European (CE) and North American (UL) standard certifications for blade-based energy storage products, the blade-based energy storage battery market is expected to account for more than 30% of the total energy storage market shipments.
