Heat coach Spo officially announced his divorce: his wife was a former Heat cheerleader
On November 30, Beijing time, Heat coach Spoelstra and his wife Nikki Spoelstra announced in a joint statement to the Miami Herald that they would officially end their seven-year marriage. The two got married in 2016 and have two sons and a daughter.
"We made the difficult but amicable decision to formally apply to end our marriage together," the statement reads. We are all grateful for each other's relationship and will remain fully committed to raising our children together, and will still continue to have them as our shared priority. As we move into the next phase of our lives, we thank you all for your support and for respecting our family's privacy. ”
Spoelstra became the head coach of the Heat in 2008, where he met Nicky, then an 18-year-old Heat cheerleader. In the summer of 2015, Spo proposed to Nicky, and a year later, they were married at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami.
The couple had two sons: Santiago, 5, and Dante, 3. They also have a daughter, Ruby, who was born in 2022.
As a two-time NBA championship coach, Spoo has been coaching the Heat for 15 years, and the 2023-24 season is his 16th season with the Heat, who are currently 10-8 and ranked 7th in the East. Nicky's current main job is hosting the podcast The Know WIth Nikki Spo.
