However, even if it is a good and easy-to-raise vermilion, it is not smooth sailing to raise it. Recently, some flower friends left a message to give feedback, saying that their vermilion red has been raised for two or three years, but it only grows leaves and does not bloom. 1. The bulb is too small
Vermilion is a bulb flower with a bulbous at the bottom of the plant that stores a lot of water and nutrients. Vermilion buds and flowers consume a lot of nutrients, and the size of the bulb directly determines whether it can flower.
The larger the seed bulb, the rich nutrients stored inside, which is conducive to plant growth and flowering; However, small seed bulbs indicate less nutrient reserves, which may lead to insufficient nutrients during flowering and affect the quality of flowering. If the bulbs are too small and store too few nutrients, then the vermilion will not be able to flower.
When we buy bulbs, it is recommended to choose larger bulbs as much as possible. This ensures that the plant has sufficient nutrient reserves, which is conducive to the growth and flowering of vermilion. If the bulbs are too small, they need to be raised before they can flower.
2. Insufficient light
Vermilion likes plenty of light, but does not like strong direct sunlight. If the summer sun is too strong, it will damage the vermilion leaves, so you need to place the pot in a cool and ventilated position to avoid direct light. In addition to summer, spring, autumn and winter can give Vermilion red sunbathing. Move the pot to a sunny location, and place it outdoors with good lighting as much as possible. Give it more sun, and the well-lit environment can stimulate the growth and flowering of vermilion.
3. Insufficient fertilizer
As we mentioned above, vermilion bulbs store nutrients and can only bloom after storing enough nutrients. The source of nutrients is absorbed from the soil by the root system, and if the fertility of the soil is not enough, it will also affect the subsequent flower bud growth and cannot flower.
Spring and autumn are two important seasons for fertilizing vermilion. In spring, vermilion is mainly applied with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium balanced fertilizers, such as compound fertilizer, various well-rotted organic fertilizer, slow-release fertilizer and so on.
The main purpose of autumn fertilization is to let the bulbs accumulate more nutrients, grow the bulbs as soon as possible, and lay a good foundation for winter and spring flowering. When choosing fertilizers, use more fertilizers with high phosphorus and potassium elements, such as Huaduoduo No. 12, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, bone meal and so on. The nitrogen element that promotes the growth of leaves should not be too much, otherwise it is easy to cause the leaves to grow.
4. Planting too deeply
Many bulb flowers need to be buried deep and planted, but Vermilion Red is the opposite, requiring shallow seeding. If you bury its bulbs too deeply in the pot, it will be detrimental to later flowering.
This is because Vermilion is a shallow-rooted plant whose roots prefer to grow in the middle and pelagic layers of the soil. If planted too deeply, it will cause excessive moisture into the soil of the leaf core, which will easily affect the growth of flower buds, and even cause leaf and flower bud rot. Therefore, we can't bury too deeply when planting vermilion red bulbs, as long as 2/3 of the bulbs are buried in the soil and 1/3 is exposed to the soil surface.
