When he was 5 years old, his father died, Li Hongzhang came to mourn and preside over the funeral, and when he first saw Li Shutong, Li Hongzhang, who had seen a lot, was greatly surprised: "This son will be a prodigy in the future."

He stood at the peak of life, experienced great wealth and wealth, and was full of talent, which was a life that others could not get in their lives. But he felt that the meaning of life was more than that.
Since he was a child, he had a deep relationship with Buddhism, and once chatted with his friend Xia Qizun, who suddenly said, "It is not complete to do this." Simply become a monk, it is refreshing! ”
The speaker has no heart, and the listener is greatly touched. Later, he said, "Most of my monasticism is due to the help of this Xiajushi, and this grace can never be forgotten!" ”
Talent or not, name or love, half a life of prosperity and half a life of wind, in the red dust of a big fight, dashing away, he chose to be in the wind and flourishing, resolutely put down, rewrite the second half of his life.
See through the red dust, the full moon of tianxin
In 1916, the 37-year-old Li Shutong wrote "One flower and one leaf, lonely and clean." Undiscovered waves, achieve wisdom. "After fasting in the mountains, shave your head and become a monk."
In 1918, after a hard trip home for his Wife, he promised to see him one last time. On that day, the atmosphere on Xizi Lake was solemn.
Two wooden boats came opposite each other. The two stood tall, his monk's robe solemn, and her expression was miserable.
As the two ships approached, she stared for a long time and said, "Tomorrow, I will return to China."

She was overwhelmed: Shu Tong...
He said, "Please call me Koichi."
She was silent for a long time: Master Koichi, please tell me what love is?
He replied: Love is compassion.
Say no and turn around, never look back.
She wept bitterly.
This was the last time they would see each other. In a letter to her, he said: "Life is short for decades, the limit is always coming, and now it is just to advance it, we will be separated sooner or later, may you see through it." ”
"You are extraordinary, please swallow this bitter wine, and then hold on to live a life, I think you are not a vulgar, cowardly soul living in your body." 」
What Xiao Qi, the king of Yuzhang, said to his wife in "Shangyang Fu": I will not allow my princess to be cowardly.
A king wants his woman to be strong enough; a Buddha, to love his woman enough.
In the face of his wife, Master Hongyi decided that "only those who have deeply experienced the red dust can give up the red dust so resolutely", he crossed the material and spiritual, bravely marched to the highest place of the soul, to "explore the end of life". He began his soul journey through the world.
When he entered the Buddha's Gate, everyone thought that with his talent and spirit, he would choose Zen Buddhism with a light spirit, but he chose the most rigorous and rigid Vinaya of the precepts, and began to take the precepts as his teacher, coarse tea and light rice, mango shoes, and no food after noon.
Once he had a party with friends, because at 12 o'clock the people were not yet together, he only drank water, and when the people were together, he said firmly: I will not eat after noon. Let a group of friends be ashamed.
Ouyang Yuqian and he are good friends, the time to meet each other has passed, he closed the door and refused: You are five minutes late and you are not seen. Ouyang Yuqian knew his temperament and could only turn away.
He set out to revitalize the Vinaya, to compile Buddhist texts, to give lectures on cloud travel, to bathe in the wind and rain, and toiled tirelessly.
When he was a child, his father hung a large couplet at home: "Cherish food, cherish clothes, not for the sake of wealth and fortune." He remembered throughout his life that after he left home, he could not bear to waste a grain of rice, and made the word "pity" to the extreme.
More than 20 years after the monks, they still use the items they brought with them, a monk's robe worn for more than ten years, and the rags in the garbage heap are broken to be sewn. Others asked for ink treasures, and he returned all the leftover rice paper, and did not waste anything.
At the age of 58, Hongyi named himself "Eryi Old Man": he grew old without an adult, and it was worthless to say.
This is self-deprecating, it is the simplicity of life, and it is also the pursuit of the ultimate abundance and consummation.
Many people do not understand why he lives so hard. Director Tian Qinxin said: "He is joyful, his share of bitterness, bitter points, he is a more refined part, he wants to work hard to be a person, in the next life, he is trying to be a person." ”
He was eventually revered as the eleventh Patriarch of the Vinaya. Such glory, compared with the prosperity of the first half of his life, is his true ideal pursuit.
"All appearances are illusory."
In the autumn of 1942, the seriously ill Master Hongyi wrote his will in advance, and repeatedly instructed his body to be filled with a bowl and filled with water at all four feet, so that the ants and insects would not climb up and be burned when they were cremated. He calmly arranged his posthumous affairs, said goodbye to his close friends one by one, recited the Buddha trumpet, and wrote down the final ink treasure "Intersection of Sorrow and Joy".
When the disciple Ye Qing bid farewell to the master, he looked up and saw a pine branch hanging on the wall. That was the pine branch that the magpie had brought when he was born, and he followed him all his life.
Nan Huaijin, a master of traditional Chinese studies, said, "Practice is not to meet the Buddha, but to meet yourself." ”
The greatness of Master Hongyi is not limited to his heirloom works, nor is it only his outstanding artistic achievements, but his strong vitality and self-control, he lives to the extreme, completes self-realization, and pursues noble personality.
His proud student, Feng Zikai, divided life into three realms:
The first substance, clothing and food, honor and wealth, filial piety and kindness, so that it is satisfied;
The second spirit, that is, the so-called "intellectuals", "scholars", "artists";
The third soul, the "desire for life" is very strong, and it is not enough to satisfy material desires and spiritual desires, and it is necessary to explore the end of life.
Master Hongyi is the third realm.
