According to Swedish media reports, a couple in the small town of Laholm wanted to give their children the same name as the Russian president, but the tax authorities refused. Under Swedish law, if the tax authorities consider the name given by the parents to the child to be offensive, or that it may cause trouble for the child, they can refuse the name given by the parents; if the first and last names are particularly similar, the tax authorities can also refuse.

Local media said the reasons for the tax authorities' rejection of the couple were unclear. This is not the first time the Swedish name registration policy has been controversial. Over the years, swedish tax authorities have rejected names like Allah, Ikea and Dotcom, and on one occasion rejected a couple's request to name their child Brfxxccxxmnpcccclclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb1116.
