On the morning of 6 April 1945, the radio of the Sarajevo Defence Council broadcast a message: "Our city has been liberated, but Vladimir Peric Walter has died ...". Who is Rakimir Peric Walter? In the commonplace war years, how could the news of his death be known on the radio?

Vladimir Peric Walter was born in 1919. He is a courageous and resourceful person, bold and strong. During World War II, he worked in a bank and later became the leader of the Sarajevo Resistance Movement. In 1942 Vladimir Peric Walter came to the guerrilla zone and formed the first East Bosnian battalion, which he followed as commander of several battalions.
In October 1943, Vladimir Peric Walter was again ordered to sneak back to Sarajevo under German occupation as leader of the underground party organization. He also led the members of the organization in carrying out attacks on the German army and the destruction of facilities.
On the night of April 5, 1945, on the eve of the imminent victory of the war, he died heroically in the last battle to win the freedom of the city. On this day he led his warriors in a fierce battle with ustasha to prevent them from destroying the power plant.
Stazza was an organization that sought to separate Croatia from Yugoslavia, and when Germany and Italy attacked Yugoslavia in 1941, Ustaše took the opportunity to declare Croatian independence and join the Axis.
At this point, although Ustasha was planning to retreat from Sarajevo, they still intended to destroy the power station. However, their plot did not succeed, but was met with heroic resistance. Ustasha was quickly defeated. But the deplorable one is that, towards the end of the fighting, Vladimir Peric Walter was forced to be seriously wounded by a shell and died shortly thereafter.
Originally buried near the power station, On July 24, 1953, Rakimir Peric Walter was buried in the Memorial Park in Vlaka, with a statue of Mingzhi, educating future generations.
In 1972, the legend of the brave and fearless resister was brought to the screen, and the film Walter Defends Sarajevo became one of the most popular war films of all time. Walter was modeled after Vladimir Peric Walter.
