German theater and film actor Hanjoh Hassei was born on August 31, 1921 in Bonn, Germany. Hanyo Hassei spent his early years as a worker and office clerk, and from 1938 to 1941 he received systematic training in theatrical performance in Berlin. In June 1941, Hanyo Hassei, who loved artistic performances, was forcibly integrated into the army after graduation and went to the front several times to fight. After the end of World War II, Hanyo Hassei was released from a prisoner-of-war camp. In June 1945, Hanyo Hassei entered the prestigious Weimar Theatre Academy in Germany, signing a contract with the famous playwright and director Nordhausen. In 1951, he played a supporting role in his first film, The Servant. He then continued his acting career in Eislerben, Schwerin, Germany. From 1952 to 1960 he was employed at the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam. From 1960 to 1961 he performed on the People's Stage in Berlin. He then moved to the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. Hanjo Hassei has written in Taleman, Captain Cologne, The Star, The Winged Man, The Grewitz Incident, The Discovery of Tianliang, Higher Principles, The Trumpeter's Song, The Girl on the Board, Liberation, The Stolen Battle, The Flames, Walter Defending Sarajevo, The Bridge, The Return of the Man on the Blacklist, The Front Line Without Flanks, Midnight Mass, The Female Guide, The Front Line After the Front, The Death Files, He has played important roles in film and television dramas such as "The Storm of the Minister's Car", "The King of Architecture", and "The Front Line Behind enemy lines". On 7 May 1971, Hanyo Hassay was awarded the Grand Prix de l'Art of the German Democratic Republic.
Hanyo Hassei is well known to Chinese audiences for his outstanding performances in the Yugoslav films Walter Defends Sarajevo and The Bridge. The portrayal of Colonel von Dietrich and Dr. Hoffmann in the film left a very deep impression on the audience, and his wonderful performance in the film is still unforgettable to Chinese audiences.
On 5 February 1983, Hanyo Hassei died of illness in The Falkensee, German Democratic Republic (present-day Brandenburg, Federal Republic of Germany), at the age of 62.
