Mark Williams: Our game needs spectators

At the English Open from 1 to 7 November, Mark Williams will form an ultra-luxurious line-up with Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Selby, Mark Allen, Neil Robertson, John Higgins, Stephen Hendry and defending champion Judd Trump.

Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes hosted nearly 20 snooker races behind closed doors during the COVID-19 pandemic. This November, Marshall Arena will host the English Open, welcoming fans for the first time.

Williams said: "Our game needs spectators and when you play without anyone, there is no atmosphere. When you play 4:4 with your opponent, you will need adrenaline to help you. That's when you have to get up under pressure and make a breakthrough. If there is no audience, there is no pressure. ”

"There's nothing better than watching a sporting match live, and nothing better than being on the field and experiencing a game. The past year and a half has been a tough time for everyone, and I hope that the more fans who enter the venue to watch the game in the future, the better. ”

'I'm happy to have a title in one season [at the British Open], I can be a little freer for the rest of the season, and this championship prize money is enough to get me into a lot of other competitions."

Mark Williams will face amateur Paul Deville in the first round of the English Open.
