Although this differential treatment does not have much impact on the overall story of "Youth in War".
However, as a TV series that shows the authenticity of history everywhere, this approach is somewhat "covering up the ears and stealing the bell".
In this interpretation of "Youth in War", the author wants to focus on the "incomprehensible" aspects of the character (perhaps the era) with readers and friends.
That is, the young people who are the main protagonists in the play, their psychological activities and behavioral guidelines.
There are a lot of places that I can't understand, or maybe it's hard to justify the plot.
For example, in episodes 1 and 2, Cheng Jiashu and Lin Huajun went to Tianjin together, hoping to save Ye Runqing from the bombing and return to Beiping.
For example, in episodes 3 and 4, Lin Huajun is disgusted and resistant to his mother's pawning family property for his own schooling, and strongly urging him to marry Ye Runming earlier.
From Beiping to Tianjin
From Beiping to Tianjin is not only a leap in time and distance, but also something that ordinary people should not easily do under the fires of war.
The 77 Incident, the 29th Army withdrew south, Nankai was bombed, and Beiping fell.
Behind this series of events are the stormy Beiping and Tianjin in 1937.
It is true that for us today, the distance between Beijing and Tianjin has long become a distance measured in hours.
But at this point in 1937, even if you were a government dignitary or high-ranking official, you might not be able to make such an easy and fast commute between the two places.
It is undeniable that when Cheng Jiashu and Lin Huajun saw the bombing of Nankai with their own eyes, they could not only strengthen their determination to resist Japan, but also achieve strong visual conflicts and effects in the plot.
But as a female student with no chicken in her hands, she has to go to the war-torn place alone for her boyfriend's sister.
And as a rich son-in-law, in order to pursue the girl who fell in love at first sight, he ignored the dissuasion and worries of his family and went with him to the Nankai campus that was about to be bombed.
In the end, although it cannot be said that everyone was happy, it also successfully rescued Ye Runming's sister Ye Runqing back to Beiping, and also "smoothly" brought back a "documentary" about the destruction of Nankai.
From my personal point of view, after seeing the scene of corpses strewn and ruined, there will also be "hatred" and "sadness".
But in terms of viewing experience, "Youth in War" can actually handle a story more rationally and more believably.
Lin Huajun, as Ye Run's famous lover, not only knew that Ye Runqing, who was also a student, was an "anti-Japanese activist", but also had to rescue her by himself.
When such a plot and character were fixed, when Lin Huajun chose to break up with Ye Runming because his mother urged marriage, the plot seemed so pale and unconvincing.
From lover to passerby
As a modern person, a modern person who has completely "evolved" in terms of concepts and ideas, what kind of cognition and understanding will you have about the "Republic of China"?
Perhaps the students and young people at that time did not have the problem of "lying flat" and "involving", or perhaps each of the young people of that era had a more independent and freer mind.
But Lin Huajun, a talented woman from the literature department of Peking University, chose to give up the pursuit of love and knowledge because of her mother's reality and utilitarianism.
And pushed away everyone's kindness and goodwill, and prepared to "share hardships" with his mother in Peiping.
Maybe it's to increase the dramatic conflict of "Youth in War", or maybe to give Cheng Jiashu a chance to pursue Lin Huajun.
In short, Lin Huajun finally chose to break up with Ye Runming and rejected Ye Runming's proposal to take his aunt to the south with him.
Even when the school provided a southbound travel fee, it was decisively decided to give up the opportunity to continue learning.
And the reason for all this is only because her mother so bluntly said that she hoped that she could marry Ye Runming as soon as possible, just because her mother pawned most of the family's valuables for her studies and future.
When Lin Huajun watched his mother sell the house for his own sake, he chose to give up and stay.
It is true that this way the mother will no longer have to pay for her own education, but what can she do if she stays?
Is it to find an errand provided to her by the invaders in the fallen city of Peiping? Or do you stay at home with your mother all day long?
For this reason, she even gave up her love and future with Ye Runming, just because her love with Ye Runming in her mother's only involves interests.
Why can't Lin Huajun's mother be "expensive by mother"?
Why is Lin Huajun only willing to admit to going to school, just to "fill" himself, not to fly on the branch and become a phoenix.
Isn't being a "full" phoenix more valuable than a "full" sparrow?
Even if it is a female student who has not yet experienced anything in the world, does Lin Huajun really think that she is only marrying Ye Runming alone, not marrying the Ye family?
Even in the countries from which these "advanced ideas" spread, marriage and family are forever bound together.
When I think of this and see this, I can't help but wonder, whether these so-called "Western-style advanced ideas" have civilized that young people, or poisoned that generation of young people?
As Lin Huajun's mother, even in 1937 she was a very enlightened and progressive woman of the era.
She tries hard to provide for her daughter's education, she does not engage in matchmaking, and allows her daughter to fall in love freely.
And she only hopes that her daughter can marry a good family, so that her mother, does not have to worry about her daughter's descendants.
Is she wrong?
At least from the perspective of Lin Mu in "Youth Under Fire", I think she is not wrong.
Lin Huajun's father was a teacher, and when she was young, Lin's mother chose to marry the talented Lin father.
Although the Lin family is not a downtrodden and poor household, Lin's mother also understands that life is not easy.
Although Mother Lin said too bluntly about her daughter's marriage, are these words really wrong?
Why did Lin Huajun choose to break up with a wealthy child who really loves because her mother only wants her to marry into a wealthy family?
Write at the end
Needless to say, "Youth in War" is a TV series worthy of recognition.
At least in dealing with most historical figures and events, he did not shy away from it.
"Youth in War" does not use fictional characters or names to "allude" to people and things that already exist in history.
Except for a few young protagonists who need to "talk about love", almost all teachers and professors are historical figures with real names.
This is worthy of encouragement and affirmation, and it is also worth learning and learning from other ancient historical dramas and Republic of China dramas.
But excellence is still the motto that nitpickers like me pursue infinitely.
Except for these historical events and people that in most cases can only be directly recounted.
As a fictional character whose story is wonderful or not, if it can be more logical and reasonable in terms of rationalization, it may be possible to make the already wonderful plot go to a higher level.
For example, let Ye Runqing flee to Beiping in pursuit by the Japanese army, or Li Qun is responsible for leading this rescue mission.
For example, after letting Lin Huajun refuse her mother to become a seller for her own education, she earns the cost of continuing her education through her own hands, and maintains a pure relationship with Ye Runming for life.
Of course, all this is not the author's wishful thinking and imagination.
The story has been cast, the story has been told, and there will be no reason to "cover the water and reap the harvest".
I only hope that in the process of the development of the later story, Cheng Jiashu, Lin Huajun, Ye Runming, Ye Runqing and those young people who have not yet appeared can put logic and rationality first.
At least don't let us who listen to the story feel abrupt and unreasonable.
