Yu Gong moves the mountain - Mao Zedong

author:Ichiro Kogi

Mao Zedong's "Yugong Moving Mountains" is an excerpt from his closing speech at the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which reads as follows:

After the conclusion of the congress, many comrades will return to their posts and will be divided into various battlefields. Comrades go to various places to propagate the line of the congress and give a broad explanation to the people through the comrades of the whole Party.

The line of our propaganda congress is to build confidence in the whole Party and the people of the whole country that the revolution must triumph. First of all, we must make the vanguard conscious, make up our minds, not be afraid of sacrifice, overcome all difficulties, and strive for victory. But this is not enough; it is also necessary to make the broad masses of the people of the whole country conscious and willing to fight with us for victory. We must make the people of the whole country have the confidence that China is Chinese people, not reactionary. There is a fable in ancient China called "Yugong Moving Mountains". It is said that in ancient times, there was an old man who lived in North China and was named Beishan Yugong. To the south of his house, there were two large mountains blocking his way out, one called Taihang Mountain and the other called Wangwu Mountain. Yu Gong decided to lead his sons to dig up these two mountains with a hoe. An old man named Zhi Shu looked at it and laughed, saying that it would be too stupid for you to do this, and it was completely impossible for your father and son to dig up such two mountains. Yu Gong replied, "When I die, I have my son, and when my son dies, I have grandchildren, and there is no end to my children and grandchildren." Although these two mountains are very high, they will not increase in height, and digging a little will be a little less, why not dig flat? Yu Gong refuted Zhi Shuo's erroneous ideas, unswervingly, and dug mountains every day. This incident touched God, and he sent two gods and immortals to go down and carry the two mountains away. Now there are also two big mountains that weigh on the heads of the Chinese people, one called imperialism and the other called feudalism. The Chinese Communist Party has long been determined to dig up these two mountains. We must persevere, we must continue to work, and we will touch God. This God is none other than the masses of the people of China. The people of the whole country have come together to dig these two mountains with us, what is not the digging?

My thoughts:

The first is the mass line. The mass line is not just a practical method of coming from the masses and going to the masses, and it is very important to "widely explain the party's line, principles, and policies to the people", especially the people at the bottom. Let the people be the masters, and the people don't even know what you want to do, and this mastery is useless.

The second is the people's concept of supremacy. The Communist Party of China is the vanguard of the Chinese people and a member of the people. The Communist Party of China is the people's political party, and all its work is for the benefit of the people, especially the interests of the people at the bottom. Resolutely safeguarding the vital interests of the people at the bottom from the perspective of the state system is the essential difference between the socialist ruling party and the capitalist ruling party.

The third is the correct attitude of struggle. The CPC's leadership of the socialist cause is the cause of the people and the struggle for the people's interests. If we want the people to work together with the party to accomplish the great cause of socialism, we must "have my son after I die, and when my son dies, and when my son dies, there will be grandchildren, and there will be no end to the children and grandchildren" to seek the interests of the people and let the people feel that the Communist Party of China is the people's party and works for the interests of the people.
