"Before liberation, Jiyuan did not have a real power industry. The establishment of the republic provided the soil for the development of electric power, created conditions, and also laid the foundation for the industrial development of Jiyuan. Cao Xiangdong, a former cultural system worker who studied local history for many years after retirement, said.
In October 1949, the salute of the founding ceremony sounded the clarion call of socialist construction. Stepping on the ruins of the war, Jiyuan's power industry started in difficulty. At that time, using charcoal as fuel, using the dilapidated car head of the United States, a 15-kilowatt generator was used to generate electricity, and electricity was delivered to the county government and the garrison through wooden poles and simple 6 kV lines.
Cao Xiangdong said that electricity was very "rare" at that time, and it was difficult for ordinary people to use electricity. It was not until 8 years later, in 1957, that the power generation equipment was changed to a Wuhan 45 hp gas engine to drive a 35 kW generator. In 1958, the first 1500 kW generator set in Jiyuan was put into use. Ten years later, in 1968, another unit of the same capacity was expanded to serve the electricity consumption of key units in the central area of the city.
Jiyuan is located in the northwest of Henan and the southeast of Jin, and the location advantage is obvious. At the same time, Jiyuan is also a natural "treasure", rich in mineral resources such as coal, wood, quartz, steel, silver and so on, with good conditions for industrial development.
Electricity is the basic energy source and a key element of economic development. In the late 1960s, with the acceleration of the industrialization process, electricity became an important factor restricting development and a "hurdle" that could not be bypassed in industrial economic construction.
"It is the duty of electric power people to set up and supply electricity well. At that time, with the arrogance of 'foolish spirit to make a big electricity', we carried people on our shoulders and erected electric poles between the slopes and valleys. Li Dehu, a retired cadre of the former State Grid Jiyuan Power Supply Company who experienced the development and construction of the Jiyuan power industry in that era, introduced.
In 1969, the Jiyuan 110 kV Hou (Haihou) Ji (Yuan) Line Transmission Project and the 110 kV Jiyuan Substation Project were put on the agenda. The former aims to connect the system grid, while the latter is an important power support. At that time, Li Dehu was already an industrial worker who had been dealing with "electricity" for 12 years. He worked in the northeast for 8 years, worked in the mechanical and electrical workshop of the Jiyuan Sulphur Mine for 4 years, and as a "senior" electric power person, Li Dehu gladly accepted the appointment. Faced with many difficulties, he led 6 personnel to survey the site, design drawings, and coordinate construction. If there is no road, it will cut through thorns; if the conditions are poor, they will eat and sleep in the wind. In the spring of the following year, the Houji Line was put into operation and connected to the large power grid.
In the next 10 years, inspired by the spirit of Yugong Moving Mountain, the 35 kV Jigang substation and the Potou substation were built one after another, and with the acceleration of power construction, the development of the "five small" industries of steel, machinery, fertilizer, coal and cement was promoted.
"Jiyuan's five small industries can be unique in the surrounding counties and cities, and electric power is indispensable." It is the efforts of the electric power people that have laid the foundation for the industrialization of the city. "This is the consensus of many people in the Jiyuan industrial system around the 1980s.

Jiyuan has many mountains and ditches, and the geographical environment is complex, making it difficult to run electricity. But for electric people, even the most difficult hard bones can be gnawed and taken down.
Wind and rain weave silver threads to illuminate the lights of the king's house. The Jiyuan Mountains have a wide area of hills, with staggered peaks and ravines. Constrained by the geographical environment and technical conditions, in the 1980s, Shaoyuan, Wangwu, Xiaye, Dayu, Potou and other areas of Jiyuan relied on the Yuncheng and Luoyang areas of Shanxi for power supply, with large line losses, long line diameters, fragile transmission networks, power supply could not be guaranteed, and some administrative villages could not get electricity.
In order to open up the power channel in the western mountainous areas, in January 1980, Jiyuan set up a construction team of more than 400 people to start construction of the 35 kV Wangwu power transmission and transformation project. At that time, it was the cold winter season, and the construction site was in the rocky area of Xiaoyouhe Village in Wangwu Town. The construction personnel carried the poles and materials up the mountain in the cold wind, pried open the rock to dig the foundation pit, climbed up the cliff to put the wire, blistered the hands and feet, the shoulders were worn, the clothes were torn by thorns, but everyone did not flinch, worked overtime, overcame difficulties, forged ahead in the struggle, trekked forward, and completed the construction task 1 month in advance. After more than a year of arduous fighting, the project was successfully put into use, and the transmission line extended into the hinterland of the mountains. Subsequently, the 35 kV Shaoyuan substation was completed, and in 1988 all 16 townships in Jiyuan were electrified. In December 1994, all 518 administrative villages in Jiyuan ushered in electric light, taking the lead in realizing the administrative village "village electrification" in the mountainous counties and cities of the province.
The pursuit of a better life by the masses is the goal of electric power people. The economy is developing, society is progressing, rural construction is constantly speeding up, and it is becoming more and more urgent to solve the problem of difficulties in using electricity for the masses in mountain villages.

In November 2006, the State Grid Jiyuan Power Supply Company fully implemented the "household electrification" project, 26 construction teams, 389 construction personnel rushed to the hinterland of Wangwu Mountain, in more than 20 construction points synchronous operations, after 9 months of continuous attack, 427 households, 1298 deep mountain residents all bid farewell to the history of no electricity, the family lit up bright electric lights, the entire Wangwu Mountain bathed in chaos and peace.
