Michelangelo was born on 6 March 1475 in a small town near Florence, Italy, the son of an administrator. His mother died when he was 6 years old.
Michelangelo loved to draw from an early age, but he did not get the support of his father, and he was often beaten by his father for secretly painting. The bereaved mother and father's grumpy temper at an early age once made him doubt his life.
But in the end he firmed up his attitude towards painting, thinking that he would eventually become an artist.
Michelangelo
At the age of 13, Michelangelo entered the studio of the famous Florentine painter Girandaio and quickly mastered the art of painting, followed by a year of studying sculpture with Bertor.
Later, his talent was discovered by the ruler of Florence, Lorenzo Medici, and thus entered the Medici Academy. Because he was often in and out of the court, his four years at the Medici Academy laid a solid foundation for his entire creative life.
At the age of 17, Lorenzo Medici died, and Florence was in chaos due to the power struggle, and Michelangelo had to go to Rome to find opportunities for development. In Rome, Michelangelo's "Mourning Christ" statue for St. Peter's Church made him quickly famous.
In 1501, at the age of 26, Michelangelo returned to Florence to complete the world-famous David.
In 1505, at the invitation of the Pope, Michelangelo spent four years painting a huge ceiling fresco "Genesis" for the Sistine Chapel, a huge project that pushed the limits of human beings.
In 1534, at the age of nearly 60, Michelangelo was commissioned by the Pope to paint frescoes for the Sistine Chapel, and he was experiencing a crisis of faith to create a shocking large-scale mural "The Last Judgment".
In his later years, he continued to work on sculpture, architecture, and a small amount of painting until his death in his studio in 1564 at the age of 89.
<h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" > David: A Miracle Born out of a Piece of Abandoned Marble</h1>
There is a story in the Bible that reads:
In David's youth, the alien Philistines invaded David's state of Israel. One of these invaders was a samurai named Goliath, who was not only huge, but also infinitely powerful and invincible.
David could not participate in the war because of his young age, and all three of his older brothers fought on the front lines. When he came to the front line to deliver food to his brothers, he saw the giant Goliath, and an enraged David asked to fight.
He went to the battlefield, cursed Goliath, and knocked Golia unconscious with a stone thrower. Then David rushed forward and pulled out his blade and cut off Goliath's head, saving Israel.
Before Michelangelo, sculptors always chose the scene where David stomped the head of his enemy under his feet. Michelangelo, on the other hand, chose to come to David to meet the scene of the battle to represent.
David was originally an abandoned, semi-finished marble sculpture.
Before Michelangelo's involvement in the production, David was supposed to be completed by the Florentine sculptor Agostino, but he only roughed the raw materials and carved them into the approximate shape of the torso of the legs and feet.
Thereafter, for unknown reasons, the sculpture project was suspended, and the semi-finished David was forgotten for 25 years.
In 1501, the cathedral decided to find a sculptor to complete the sculpture because "a marble statue called David was lying on his back and blocking the way". Eventually, at the age of 26, Michelangelo received the commission.
In 1504, this famous marble statue was born.
At 3.96 meters high and 5.5 meters high, David presents the image of a young naked man with impeccable accuracy in every detail of his anatomy. His muscles rose and fell vigorously, and looking at him, people seemed to be able to feel the beating of blood vessels in his body. His facial expression reflects his belief in strength, bravery and invincibility.
The beauty of the human body shown in "David" is the common pursuit of Renaissance humanism: to make people aware of human beauty and no longer creep at the feet of God. It has had a profound impact on Europe and the world at large.
<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" > Genesis</h1>
Michelangelo's huge ceiling painting Genesis for the Sistine Chapel is magnificent and the characters are stunning. The entire roof is 36.54 meters long, 13.14 meters wide and has a height of 18 meters.
The picture consists of 9 central pictures and numerous decorative paintings, with a total of 343 figures.
Among them, "Creation Adam" is the most famous: God extended his finger to Adam, ready to pass the soul to Adam like an electric current. Under the protection of God's left arm is the beautiful Eve.
With his extraordinary painting skills and tenacity, Michelangelo has left mankind with this jewel of art.
<h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" > completely naked Copy of The Last Judgment</h1>
The Last Judgment is a giant fresco that Michelangelo spent six years on the wall under the Book of Genesis, depicting the moment Jesus came again and everyone would be judged.
The Last Judgment is considered a horror because the 250 figures in the painting are naked, even Jesus and the Virgin Mary.
So much so that the mural immediately caused a sensation in Rome as soon as it was unveiled, when many considered the painting's nudity to be an act of blasphemy.
Immediately after Michelangelo's death, the Pope ordered painters to draw a "fig leaf" for all the people in The Last Judgment, known as the "trouser wearers."
As a result, all the people in the painting were painted with silk scarves or ornaments, which became what we see now.
Michelangelo, as a renaissance master who pursued perfection all his life, he had a huge impact on Europe and the world.
