Seven Wonders of the Underwater World – Belize Reef

At 306 km, Belize Reef is the second largest coral reef complex in the world after Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

Belize is located on the Yucatan Peninsula, about 400 kilometers south of Cancun, bordered by Mexico to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and Guatemala to the west and south.

The entire western coast of Belize is located in the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve, which meets the coastline of the Caribbean Sea.

In 1996, Belize Barrier Reef was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moreover, in 2010, the Belize government became the first government in the world to impose a total ban on net-based fishing. Despite the fact that many of the planet's coral reefs are threatened by climate change, Belize reefs remain relatively healthy.

Among Belize reefs, Groves Reef, the southernmost of the reef group, is best protected (Figure II). As this reef is far from the mainland and untouched by sediment and sediment, the water is crystal clear and has excellent visibility, which is popular with diving enthusiasts.

Groves Reef is also known as the "Home of the Emerald Forest" because of its spectacular staghorn coral jungle.

The Belize reefs are known for their biodiversity. From the lagoon to the Houchen Marine Sanctuary to the mangrove forest (Figure 9), there is a wide variety of marine life. A variety of colorful, or large, or small sea creatures, form a good ecosystem, ensuring a virtuous ecological cycle in the sea. It is famous for its stunning coral reefs, numerous fish and invertebrates, and crystal clear waters.

The most famous blue cave in the area is actually an underground cave, and after the top of the cave collapsed, it formed the current deep pit (Figure 1).
