Refresh new records in Jiangxi Matou Mountain Conservation Area found Taiwan sprinkled with gray butterflies

In April 2020, the staff of Matoushan National Nature Reserve in Jiangxi Province discovered a butterfly of the family Lycaenidae in the family Lycaenidae, which was identified by Professor Sun Shuping of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration as the Satyrium formosanum (Matsumura) of the Taiwan sprinkled gray butterfly during the investigation of insect resources, which has never been recorded in Jiangxi and is a new record species in Jiangxi.

The specimen was found in The Matou Mountain National Nature Reserve in Jiangxi

Satyrium formosanum (Matsumura) of the Taiwanese butterfly, this species has black-brown wings, and the male has a dark gray oval spot at the middle ventricular end of the forewing, and the hindwing gluteal horn process semicircle has a crescent-shaped orange stripe with 2 tail processes, of which the cu1 vein is short. The reverse of the wing is brown, the middle transverse white band is intermittently close to the outer edge of the wing, the white belt of the front and back wings is broken in two at the Cu2 vein, and the outer edge of the front and back wings is each edged with gray and white scale black spots, of which the black spots in the forewing 2a chamber are the largest, which can be used as a basis for identification with similar species to the same genus.

According to the original distribution records, the Taiwan gray butterfly is commonly found in Taiwan and Fujian, and is a new pest of the disease-free seed, which occurs in Fujian for one generation a year and overwinters with eggs. Eggs begin to hatch in early March of the following year, pupate begin in early April, and adults begin to see in late April.
