Norwegian authorities killed a 1,300-pound walrus named Freya on Sunday, who had been climbing on a boat off the coast of Oslo for the past few weeks and wandering around the docks, and Norwegian authorities said moving her was "too risky" and decided to kill her.
Olav Lekver, a spokesman for the Norwegian Fisheries Agency, said: "The walrus needs a lot of rest and people have been harassing Freya, swimming with her and taking pictures of her. Walruses are social animals that rarely venture alone, which may be why Freya is active in densely populated areas. The bureau repeatedly warned people to stay away from the animal, but most of them didn't listen. Authorities warned last week that Freya would be in danger of being killed if it could not persuade bystanders to stay away, but people went their own way and authorities had no choice. ”
So, although Frea just kept hanging around and eating mussels and did not show aggression, she was killed by the Norwegian authorities.
The walrus Frea is still too young, only 5 years old, not yet able to give birth to baby walruses, female walruses generally give birth around the age of 9 or 10, normally, she can live to be about 40 years old.
Norwegian authorities did not disclose how to kill her.
