Mod turns the Minecraft mob into a Lego minifigure

A new mod from Minecraft turns many of the game's NPCs (known as thugs) into chunky plastic LEGO minifigures. Minecraft Mobs are the most iconic and well-known NPCs in the game world, and fans dig deeper into the knowledge, behavior, and mechanics of these AI creatures, sometimes discovering surprising secrets. There are even a few Minecraft mobs that can be tamed, further cementing fans' love for the many available variants.

Minecraft has more user-generated content than most popular video games, in part because of the creative freedom it offers, even in vanilla versions of the game. Players share their carefully crafted cities, natural landscapes, complex installations, and more. Thanks to the game's powerful and easy-to-understand crafting system, the Minecraft community is home to countless stunning and impressive buildings. Minecraft, however, UGC didn't end up with these in-game creations, as games have also proven to be fertile ground for many interesting mods. These mods make the game easier, add more content, and even change the background or genre of the game entirely with new game mechanics, textures, and monsters. A recent example is a mod package that turns Minecraft into an Elden Ring clone.

A new LEGO minifigure-inspired mod has arrived, and it doesn't seem to make any changes to the gameplay, but it will certainly change the look of the Minecraft world. The mod, shared by user Ericclot on CurseForge, turns many of the creatures in the game into their own LEGO versions. This means that sheep, pigs, zombies, villagers, and other non-player characters will undergo a texture overhaul and change their arms and legs to make them look like Lego characters. Many of these thugs also had connecting nails, although these seemed to be only decorative. According to the mod's description, most of the appearance is based on the Lego-released Minecraft figurines.

The similarities between Mojang's best-selling Minecraft and the world-famous Danish toy company LEGO are clear and have been cited before through fan creations, especially in last year's LEGO Minecraft animated short. Both LEGO and Minecraft encourage their users to exercise their creativity, so it makes sense to combine the two through fan art, animation, and mods like Ericclot. These IPs are also aesthetically similar, both utilizing a simple, blocky look to keep timeless.

Over time, more Minecraft mods may emerge and perhaps more LEGO-inspired content. While these future mods will certainly cover a wide range of uses and benefits, few will be able to achieve Ericclot's specific purpose. For gamers who love Minecraft and LEGO, this minifigure mod might be worth downloading.
