What is true is deep

——Read Mr. Chen Qing's calligraphy

Text/Ye Pengfei

Wang Guowei said in "Words and Sayings on Earth": "Everyone's works, their words and feelings, will also be refreshing; in fact, the scene will also be open to people's eyes and ears." His words blurted out, without the attitude of makeup. From what he is true, he who knows is deep." It is clear that in order for literary and artistic creation to reach a high and profound realm, it must come out of the heart and be open to the eyes and ears of the people. Today, I have read a number of mr. Chen Qing's recent calligraphy works, and the handsome and free and vibrant style that is transmitted by them makes me look at it for a long time, and I am attracted by his deep Hanmo feelings and rich cultural connotations, which is exactly what Mr. Wang Guowei said.

I have known Mr. Chen Qing for nearly forty years. At that time, I was working at the Changzhou Museum, and he came to attend the opening ceremony of the calligraphy exhibition held by the Changzhou Book Association, and the calligraphy work he exhibited was very thick, which made me look at it for a long time and was particularly impressed. Later, when I became a member of the 10th Changzhou Municipal CPPCC Committee in 1997, I had a lot of contacts, and at that time he had served in the Changzhou Municipal CPPCC organ for many years, and whenever I went to the meeting of the CPPCC, I would go to his office to talk about it. He was quick-witted, capable, enthusiastic, and diligent in calligraphy creation, and became a book friend whom I knew and admired. In 2002, his collection of calligraphy and painting criticism essays "Rubble Collection" was published, which was well received by the society. After reading it, I learned about the breadth of the cultural aspects he involved and the depth of his education, and I read it after reading it. Therefore, this time, looking at his new calligraphy work, I recalled the interactions of more than thirty years, and I felt a lot of feelings.

Reading Mr. Chen Qing's calligraphy, the first thing that made me feel was that he had a unique thinking on the pursuit of calligraphy art, and his wisdom was revealed in his pen and ink.

Mr. Chen Qing's "Collection of Gravel" let me understand that he has been fond of Yan Zhenqing's calligraphy since he was a child, always deeply researching and grinding in the middle of the night, adhering to the strict Linchi norms, and the meticulous study of the penmanship, accompanied by his spring and autumn cold and summer. In his view, Yan Zhenqing is a model of "changing the ancient law to create a new state", Yan Shu as a whole is standardized and free, law-abiding and flexible, with the meaning of temple majesty and grandeur. The formation of Yan Zhenqing's calligraphy style is the crystallization of "breaking the elegance with customs" and creating a new style. To this end, he made a detailed exposition of the characteristics of the "Qinli Monument" such as pen and ink, knot body, and cloth white. It is based on this that in the colorful era of calligraphy ideas constantly rising in the 1980s and 1990s, when calligraphy ideas were constantly rising and the style of calligraphy was often changed, he always adhered to his beliefs and pursuits, and was not affected by any calligraphy trend, showing his unique wisdom in calligraphy art! It is precisely because he is based on the Style of Yanshu, dissolving it into xingshu, cursive writing and even seals, absorbing and constantly supplementing his artistic education, so it can be in stark contrast with the shallow style of writing that people pursue at the time, and highlight his difference when "the elegance is not done, the sound is faint". His calligraphy works have participated in the National Book Fair, the Yang Group Exhibition, and the Newcomers' New Works Exhibition, becoming the first member of Changzhou to join the China Book Association, inheriting daya Zhengsheng, which is the cultural value and significance embodied in Mr. Chen Qing's calligraphy pursuit.

As a book writer of the times, his works can touch the hearts of readers, and they must have vivid pen and ink forms and profound connotations, which must reveal the spiritual outlook of the book writers themselves. Mr. Chen Qing is known for his cursive writing, and he also moves my heartstrings the most and refreshes my heart.

Mr. Chen Qing's cursive writing has small characters and large characters, which are rich in form. Judging from his works, he can use his pen with a comfortable mentality, and the stroke of his heart is confident, and the pen and ink are dignified, light, and interesting, all of which are formed in his swing. His ability to control the lines of calligraphy is extremely free, and he has formed a thousand miles of temperament, its curve and straight, ring and wind, rigid and soft, heavy and light, dry and moist, all kinds of factors intertwined, exhausting the changes of virtual reality and weight, showing his sensitivity and control of dot brush and ink. I compared his collection of calligraphy works from ten years ago, and saw that his new works were constantly enriching the characteristics of his dot-and-draw lines, drawing nutrients from Zhang Xu's cursive writing, Wang Duo's xingshu, and Fu Shan's big grass, and the writing posture was more fluent and durable. In particular, he made great strides in exploring the creation of the list book, and even dissolved the thick atmosphere of the list book into the creation of cursive writing, so that it combined the temple atmosphere with the book volume qi, and the works with a small number of words tended to the former, and the works with a large number of words tended to the latter, reflecting each other and walking out of a new road. The trajectory of his cursive writing is the crystallization of his own aesthetic cultivation.

Usually, if you and Mr. Chen Qing participate in the writing of Blessings and Writing Spring Festival and other activities to benefit the people, I like to see him most swinging: every time he writes large-character calligraphy, he is sprinkled with a calm and unhurried mentality, containing super-easy strokes in the thick lines, aggravating some strokes in the words, making the structural space of the font shrink, forming a dense and solemn form, strengthening the contrast between the pen and ink lines and the blank space, making the palace of the character posture more close, and stretching outwards around, producing a strong sense of power, radiating to all sides, strangely self-generating, open to the eyes and ears, Let people feel the shocking power and affinity of calligraphy art. Therefore, Mr. Chen Qing's calligraphy, whether it is small characters or large characters, whether it is a piece or a single word, is very wonderful, which shows that the more comprehensive, more skilled and subtle the technique mastered by the calligrapher, the greater the expressiveness and freedom in artistic creation, and the stronger the emotion expressed, which is where Mr. Chen Qing's calligraphy creativity lies.

Because Mr. Chen Qing studied Yan Shu since he was a child, under the influence of Yan Zhenqing's personality strength, he was particularly immersed in Confucianism. The implementation of Confucianism in the art of calligraphy requires the calligrapher to harmoniously unify various opposing factors, inherit and innovate, specialize in and learn, and practice internal and external skills. Therefore, in the past few decades of cultivation, Mr. Chen Qing, whether in the style of the book or the inscription, has adhered to the traditional positive vein, appeared in the image of "relying on benevolence", and sought changes in the Chia Tai weather.

Mr. Chen Qing's calligraphy is a demonstration of his open mind and personality strength. In his view, although calligraphy creation is an aspect, it is even more important to educate calligraphy to people and improve people's quality. For this reason, he devoted himself to various calligraphy cultural public welfare activities, and constantly cultivated and supported many new calligraphers, which was full of positive tension to promote the cause of calligraphy in Changzhou. Especially since he became the chairman of the Changzhou Book Association in 2019, he has made remarkable achievements in the construction of the association, talent training, artistic creation, etc., and the Dahua calligraphy pen is clean and clean, and the magnificent style of the Longcheng book world has been greatly displayed, which has made Changzhou calligraphy art an unprecedented prosperous scene, making the book association a cultural benchmark and praised by the art world. It can be seen that Mr. Chen Qing's calligraphy has a thick, simple, and majestic atmosphere, which is the condensation of his state of mind and mind! It is a demonstration of its personality strength! It is also the origin of "what is true, what knows is deep"!
