Among them, pure electric vehicle sales accounted for 75% of total electric vehicle sales, and the sales growth rate of pure electric vehicles (up 81% year-on-year) was faster than that of plug-in hybrid vehicles (up 19% year-on-year). In the first quarter of this year, the cumulative sales of electric vehicles worldwide reached nearly 2 million, and its share of the global automotive market also increased to 11%.

March global top 20 electric vehicle list: Chery QQ ice cream progress is fast

In March, the top two in the global top 20 electric vehicle list are still in Tesla's pocket, and the Model Y has been at the top of the list for three consecutive months, which is the first time that the car has beaten its sister model Model 3 in the same quarter. In the first quarter, Model Y deliveries climbed continuously, including a record 92,221 units in March, while Model 3 sales were almost flat, with global sales up only 1% year-on-year in the first quarter of this year.

The next three places remained unchanged from February, but fourth place BYD Song PHEV set a new monthly sales record (22,383 units). In addition, sales of the other 3 models in the top ten also reached a new high, the most notable is the current 6th place Chery QQ Ice Cream, which achieved a record record of 11,687 units in the fifth month of listing, and the ranking is also climbing all the way; the 9th Hyundai Ioiq 5 sold more than 10,000 for the first time, and the gap between the current and the 8th place Volkswagen ID.4 is only 9 units, which is expected to become the best-selling electric model of traditional car manufacturers.

Changan Automobile's strong sales momentum is spreading to its lineup of electric vehicles, especially its Ben EVs, which also sold more than 10,000 units in March. In the second half of the list, BYD Yuan Plus models were among the top 20 models in the third month of listing, with sales of 10,027 units in March, climbing very rapidly, while its sister model BYD Dolphin sold only 6,000 units in the third month of listing, and it is also possible that monthly sales of BYD Yuan Plus will climb to 20,000 units in the coming months.

In addition to the above-mentioned models, sales of the 14th GAC Aion Y, the 15th Xiaopeng P7 and the 20th United Nezha V also set new records. It is also worth mentioning that the Kia EV6 is the second model from the E-GMP among the top 20 best-selling models.

In terms of cumulative sales in the first quarter of this year, Model Y still ranks first, Model 3 retreats second, and its market share has fallen from 11% in the same period last year to 6.4%, indicating that Tesla's current sales growth burden falls on Model Y.

Both the Volkswagen ID.4 and Chery QQ Ice Cream climbed a spot, but the ID.4 needs to be wary of the Hyundai Ioiq 5, which climbed 2 places and is currently in 12th place, with a gap of only 3,000 units between the ID.4 and the ID.4.

In the second half of the cumulative sales top 20 list, two new faces appeared, the 18th GAC Aion Y replaced its brother model Aion S, and the Kia EV6 rejoined the list. In addition, a rising star should soon enter the top 20, it is BYD Yuan Plus, which is currently about 1500 fewer than the Kia EV6 in the 20th place, and it is expected to become the seventh model under BYD to enter the list.

March global top 20 electric vehicle brand list: Tesla surpassed BYD

In March, the world's two best-selling electric vehicle brands achieved record results, with Tesla selling 180,000 vehicles at the top of the list and BYD selling 105,000 units, which is the first time that the monthly sales of electric vehicles of the two major brands have exceeded 100,000 units at the same time.

In addition to the top two, several other brands also reached new sales, such as Hyundai, Kia, Chery, Changan, GAC and Nezha. In addition, 6th place Mercedes-Benz sold 26,814 electric vehicles worldwide in March, the best in 15 months.

After a sluggish February, Xiaopeng and Great Wall returned to the Top 20 list in March, which also brought the number of Chinese car brands to 10.

In terms of cumulative sales in the first quarter of this year, Tesla eventually surpassed BYD, 1.2 percentage points ahead of the latter in market share. However, this is the smallest gap between Tesla and second place since 2019, and Tesla's market share has shrunk by 1 percentage point from the same period last year.

SAIC-GM-Wuling remained "comfortable" in 3rd place, BMW returned to 4th place, Hyundai and Kia climbed 1 place each, and Chery also rose 1 place between these two Korean brands. In addition, Chang'an, the Great Wall and Xiaopeng have also made progress.

In the situation of "a hundred flowers blooming", which brand secretly grabbed market share? The answer is clearly BYD, whose market share has increased by 9 percentage points in 1 year; Chery's market share has doubled to 2.6%, ideal and GAC's market share has also increased by 0.7 and 0.2 percentage points, respectively; Hyundai (market share increased by 0.8 percentage points) and Kia (market share increased by 0.6 percentage points) have won some ground losses for Korean brands.

The rise of BYD has reduced the market share of SAIC And Volkswagen by 4 percentage points compared with last year, and the gap between the two major automobile groups and Tesla and BYD, the two top electric vehicle players, has gradually widened.
