Does the "Zhang Sanfeng" in "Yitian Slaughtering Dragon" really exist in history?

The History of Chinese Martial Arts and the Ming Shi Lie biography record that Zhang Sanfeng was born in 1247 (Southern Song Dynasty) in Yizhou, Liaodong Province (present-day Dayingzi Township, Fuxin Mongol Autonomous County, Liaoning Province).

At the age of 14, he was admitted to wenwu zhuangyuan, at the age of 18 he served as the commander of Boling County, and in 1280 he resigned from the government and became a monk, he combined various schools of learning, opposed the Yuan Dynasty, fought against thieves, and became famous in Wulin, and was the ancestor of the Wudang school, the ancestor of neijiaquan, the ancestor of taijiquan, and the martial arts Taishan Beidou.

Zhang Sanfeng's original name was Zhang Junbao, and Sanfeng was one of his Dao numbers. Zhang Sanfeng has many names, mainly including Xuanxuan, Sanfeng, Sanfeng, Xuanyi, Jubao, Kunyang, Lamin, Sloppy Zhang Xianren, Jianxian and so on. The reason why he often used "Sanfeng" was because Taoists believed that "San" represented yang, "Feng" represented yin, and "Sanfeng" represented the unity of Qiankun and the change of yin and yang, and many cultivators liked to use this number, not only Zhang Sanfeng.

In Jin Yong's novel "The Book of the Dragon Slaughtering in the Heavens", Zhang Sanfeng's appearance is described as follows: the forehead tip and neck are thin, the chest is wide and the legs are long, and the eyes are ringed and the ears are large. It is more consistent with the description in the History of Ming. In the "History of Ming", it is said that he has a magnificent body, a turtle-shaped crane back, big ears and round eyes, and a beard like a halberd, no matter whether it is spring, summer, autumn or winter, he is wearing a Taoist robe, and he is sloppy all day long, known as Zhang Sloppy.

Historical academics generally believe that Zhang Sanfeng lived for 212 years, spanning the three dynasties of the Southern Song Dynasty, the Yuan Dynasty, and the early Ming Dynasty. In Jin Yong's novels, Zhang Sanfeng also spans several works. So, is Zhang Sanfeng's martial arts as fascinating as in the novel?

As for how high the martial arts are, it is impossible to verify it now. But he really created Tai Chi Chuan and Tai Chi Sword. Zhang Sanfeng began to become a Taoist, and the Tao Te Ching was the foundation of their practice. Taoists have always advocated the concept of "braking with static braking, and using soft kegang".

Later, Zhang Sanfeng realized the word "virtual and quiet" in the five thousand words sprinkled in the Tao Te Ching.

Virtual is nothing, quiet is inaction, and thus deduced, clumsy is better than clever, quiet is better than dry, virtual is better than surplus, soft is better than rigid... To sum up, it is to do nothing and do nothing.

For days on end, he pondered how to better apply the main thrust of the five thousand words to his life. It was early summer, deep in the mountains, the air was quiet, and Zhang Sanfeng was staring at the window in contemplation.

Suddenly, there was a rapid magpie song in the courtyard, a magpie, a big snake, was fighting desperately, the magpie continued to attack, the snake was on the ground, and did not rush out, Zhang Sanfeng felt curious, so he held his breath and watched carefully, only to see the long snake waiting for work, with a static brake, to see the opportunity, then quickly attacked, and when the magpie was exhausted, it bit the magpie's head with a swift thunderous momentum.

Zhang Sanfeng suddenly burst through, came to the courtyard, imitated the long snake's "quiet as a virgin, moving like a rabbit", and created a magical Wudang stunt - Taijiquan. Later generations of people, according to the martial arts characteristics of "Shaolin Master Bo, Wudang Master Shou", referred to Shaolin as Waijia Fist and Wudang as Inner Family Fist.

Zhang Sanfeng never married in his life, such as idle clouds and wild cranes, traveling around, recruiting disciples into the Dao, and becoming very famous. Coming and going is impermanent, and the dragon sees the beginning and does not see the end. Folklore is even more legendary that he can soar through the clouds and ride the fog, traveling thousands of miles a day.

However, the reason why his reputation can be passed on to future generations, such as the sun in the sky, in addition to the people, but also thanks to the emperor's gift. Like Guan Yu, who was able to penetrate the hearts of the people and pass it on to future generations, he was mainly given and admired by the emperor.
