Do not hit small children

Today is International Child Day.

Is domestic violence and child abuse far away from us?

Not.

The data shows that the incidence of physical abuse of children in urban areas of China is 41.2% to 67.3%.

Moreover, violence is by no means just physical violence, but also emotional or mental violence, sexual violence and neglect.

Children who are often subjected to domestic violence are more likely to have psychological problems.

Studies have shown that children who are abused as children, or even witness domestic violence, have more prominent psychological problems during adolescence than children who do not experience it. For example, it is easier to produce feelings of inferiority, cowardice, and depression.

If you grow up and spend a long time in this mood, it may also lead to behaviors such as suicide and self-abuse in adolescents.

Not only that, but children who are often victims of domestic violence are more likely to use violence to solve problems.

In other words, if parents and teachers use violent means to educate their children, it is equivalent to giving children a "license" that can use violence to solve problems.

In the future, when they encounter unpleasant things, they are also likely to imitate this way to deal with the unpleasant things or setbacks they encounter.

In life, violence against children often goes unchecked or even undetected. This is because children are vulnerable and it is difficult to make a voice for help, and many people feel that "disciplining children" is someone else's business. Even a lot of scolding and abuse, in the name of "hitting you is for your own good".

In order to avoid repeating similar tragedies over and over again, we must always remind ourselves not to be perpetrators and stop the cycle of violence.

In addition, it is also an important measure to detect and stop domestic violence and child abuse around us in a timely manner.

The clinical database Uptodate summarizes several categories of manifestations that may suggest a child being abused:

palms, belts, rope rings, and other shaped ecchymoses;

Burns of cigarette butts, irons, shovels and other shapes;

Ecchymosis and fractures of long bones in children who cannot walk;

Ecchymosis on the trunk, ears, and neck;

......

If you find the above phenomenon in a small child, I hope that you can take the initiative to reach out to the TA and ask the TA: How did you get the injury on your body?

If you have directly witnessed child abuse, hopefully you can stop the violence or keep evidence (such as taking pictures) and ask the public security department for help.

Whether for educational purposes or abuse, violence is violence. Each child is an individual, not a punching bag for anyone.

April 30 is International No Kids Day, but we hope to:

Every day is a day without hitting children.
