Italians never miss a chance to enjoy the passion of driving, and soon after the 296 GTB was unveiled, Ferrari officially released the official picture of the 296 GTS model, that is, the open-top version of the 296.
About the 296 GTS
Compared to other brands of engined rear-mounted sports cars, if a hard-top convertible is used, the design of the transparent lid or blinds will be hidden, but Ferrari offers the best of both worlds. The dividing line between the body and the canopy is located above the B-pillar. Therefore, the foldable hardtop convertible is divided into two parts, folded and stored in the front of the engine, so as to ensure that the heat dissipation effect of the engine compartment and the balance of the vehicle design are not affected. At the same time, the designers were able to design a window at the rear of the engine cover, through which the new V6 engine was clearly visible.
At speeds of up to 45 km/h, the lightweight foldable hardtop convertible can be easily opened or closed in just 14 seconds. After the canopy is opened, in order to ensure that the hairstyle is not disturbed, Ferrari has developed a series of solutions that can also manage the recirculation of the air around the occupants while counteracting the turbulence of the air in the cockpit. The geometry of the rear trim panels on the headrests has been optimised to direct as much air as possible to the canopy cover to reduce the flow of recirculated air in the cockpit.
The new car continues to be equipped with a new 120-degree cylinder angled 2.9T twin-turbo V6 engine, and with a rear axle motor to form a plug-in hybrid system, the system will achieve a comprehensive power of 830 horsepower and a maximum torque of 740 Nm; in terms of transmission system, the new car will be equipped with an optimized 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The 6-cylinder engine has now become a new favorite in the supercar world, and with ferrari introducing the new V6 engine, the IHI turbocharger has also been completely redesigned and made of higher performance alloys. This means that the maximum speed of the turbocharger can be increased to 180,000 rpm, while the performance and boosting efficiency are also improved, the compressor wheel diameter and turbine rotor diameter are reduced compared to the 3.9-liter V8 engine, and the inertia of the two rotating elements is reduced by 11%.
As the first product of the F163 engine family, the V6 engine officially said that this V6 engine won the title of "piccolo V12" (small V12 engine) during the development stage. The 120°V-shaped architecture ensures a symmetrical ignition sequence. In addition, the equal-length exhaust manifold and single exhaust duct located on the outside of the "Hot V" design further enhance the pressure wave and ensure a clear and pure sound.
The 296 GTS is similar to the hardtop version of the front face design, the new headlight style is very sharp, and the huge forward grille also shows the Prancing Horse's pursuit of aerodynamics as always.
The rear retains an active aerodynamics, a design developed specifically for Ferrari models with a mid-rear engine, where the spoiler extends when the vehicle reaches a certain speed, providing 100 kg of downforce to the rear axle.
The interior layout draws inspiration from the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and maintains a uniform style. When the ignition is turned off, the dashboard in the cockpit will appear in a "black screen" state, creating a minimalist visual effect.
The petrol version of Ferrari has the traditional Manettino knob, while the hybrid version is the eManettino, which has four different power control modes:
eDrive mode: In this mode, the engine will stop working and the rear wheels will be driven by pure electric power; when fully charged, the Ferrari 296 GTS can travel at a top speed of 135 km/h for 25 km/ h.
Hybrid: This is the default start mode when igniting. In hybrid mode, the power flow is managed with the goal of achieving maximum efficiency, while the control logic unit determines when the internal combustion engine will intervene. Once the engine is started, power and performance are maximized.
Performance Mode: In this mode, the engine is always active and assists in maintaining battery efficiency to ensure that the sports car is always fully charged. This is the best mode to be able to fully unleash the performance of the Ferrari 296 GTS.
Qualify: This mode achieves the peak performance of the Ferrari 296 GTS, but the recharge efficiency is relatively low at this time.
