Known as the "smiling angel", the Yangtze River finless porpoise is the flagship species of the Yangtze River. In recent years, residents along the river have witnessed more and more yangtze porpoises. Wild finless porpoises can be seen in the central section of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.
The Yangtze River finless porpoise is the flagship species of the Yangtze River, and its population number is one of the important indicators for evaluating the Yangtze River water ecological index. At the same time, the aquatic organisms of the Yangtze River main stream represented by the Yangtze River finless porpoise play an important role in maintaining the function and structure of the ecosystem.
Media workers, experts, scholars, photographers and other Nanjing citizens from all walks of life jointly participated in the protection of finless porpoises and became "dolphin guards".
In addition to non-governmental organizations, the Jiangsu Provincial Government approved the establishment of the Nanjing Yangtze River Finless Porpoise Provincial Nature Reserve. The reserve adopts scientific and technological means to protect and manage the Yangtze River finless porpoise, establishes a smart prevention and control system, and builds a three-dimensional monitoring system of "water-underwater-shoreline".
In recent years, under the "escort" of national policies, ecological problems such as water environmental pollution, overfishing, and illegal sand mining have been effectively alleviated, and the ecology of the Yangtze River is gradually recovering. At present, the population of Yangtze River finless porpoises in the reserve is about 50 and is showing an increasing trend.
