BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- "What is the difference between ladybugs in different periods?" "When will the insect's 'self-defense' be activated?" On the morning of the 23rd, the Scenic Area of Yishou Hall of the Summer Palace was transformed into a small lecture hall for science popularization, and primary school students listened to the garden "Insect Record" brought by Li Jie, a plant protection engineer of the Summer Palace Horticultural Team, under the wisteria flowers.

On April 23, the 27th "World Book Day", the Summer Palace held the "Green Home in Literature" children's science popularization activity, and moved the reading clubs of two children's literatures, "Silent Spring" and "Insects", into the royal garden, so that the garden can be immersed in reading and the environmental awareness will be rooted in the hearts of children.

The event began with a book sharing from Insects. By reading and sharing their favorite passages in Insects, the students slowly unfolded the world of insects in the eyes of naturalists. Subsequently, a small popular science video of "Ladybird Daughter Country" produced by the science and technology staff of the Summer Palace was played on the spot, leading the children to explore and understand the reproduction and evolution of ladybirds.

As the video ended, the children put forward various whimsical ideas about insects, Li Jie started from the morphological characteristics, living habits and ecological values of the ladybird family, and led everyone to send the artificially bred heterochromatic ladybirds to the "front line" of aphid control.

The "little gardeners" came to the woods, the lower graders were responsible for hanging the egg cards containing the eggs of the heterochromatic ladybirds, and the seniors were responsible for releasing the adults. They carefully poured two or three ladybugs from the container into the palm of their hands, and then used their thumbs and forefingers to pinch the elytra of the ladybugs and gently place them on the leaves of the flower bush, experiencing the laws of nature described in The Insect Chronicle.

Su Hengyi, a second-grader this year, told reporters that this is his first time to participate in field science popularization activities, and he saw the "real worms" and "true leaves" that are difficult to see in the classroom on weekdays this morning, and he was most impressed by the seven-star ladybird. "I can feel that there are small fluffs on this leaf," Su Hengyi said, adding that if I had the opportunity, in addition to insects, I would like to learn more about plants in the outdoor classroom.

It is understood that on the afternoon of the 23rd, Ji Qingxuan of the Summer Palace Academy will also hold a live broadcast of the cultural salon with the theme of "Counting and Gardening", so that readers can feel the fragrance of garden books while appreciating the beauty of history, reading and speculation.
