Feng Huochun was born in Hubei Province, where the people are brilliant and the mountains and rivers are beautiful.
In the 1960s and 1970s, when the cultural and entertainment life was not rich, the calligraphy classes opened in the school seemed to open a door for him to art, and he never stopped enjoying it. The family could not afford to buy pen and ink, so he took local materials, wrote on the ground with wooden sticks, painted on the wall with charcoal, and the chalk head discarded by the teacher was a good tool for him to practice calligraphy, so he laid a good foundation for calligraphy.
In 1980, Feng Huochun put on a military uniform and entered the barracks. The tense life of the army did not dampen his enthusiasm for calligraphy, but provided him with a broad stage and a model to learn from. In that era, the whole army set off a wave of cultural study, and the practice of calligraphy became the main content of the "dual-use talents" of the troops. Feng Huochun actively participated in the calligraphy training classes held by the army and the garrison, rain or shine, and also used his role as a company clerk and battalion secretary as a calligraphy instructor to teach calligraphy knowledge to his comrades-in-arms. Don't look at him in life is extremely frugal, but when buying calligraphy and painting books, he is very generous, every week to visit Xinhua Bookstore, see calligraphy and painting books are like a treasure. At that time, the "Selected Books of the Tablets of the Past Dynasties" and the "Three Xitang Fa Ti" had just been published, and Feng Huochun tried his best to buy them one after another, and repeatedly pondered them in his spare time.
In order to improve his technique, Feng Huochun actively participated in the calligraphy training pen meeting organized by the masters Li Duo, Tian Yingzhang, and Lu Zhongnan, observed the large-scale calligraphy and painting exhibition of the whole army, watched the famous calligraphy teaching video, humbly asked the famous calligraphers Zhao Puchu, Shu Tong, and Li Duo for calligraphy skills, reported on the experience of studying books, and benefited a lot.
In order to study Xiao Kai, Feng Huochun went to Xidan Book City to buy the "Collection of Xiao Kai of Past Dynasties", starting from the writing of "Tang Xiao Kai Ling Fei Jing", "Jiucheng Palace", "Huadu Temple Stele", the structure of the chapter, the pursuit of the pen is serious, the dots are in place, take the essence of each name, and the pen end of the yu yi himself.
His xiaokai works, smart and beautiful, simple and natural, are very fine works.
With calligraphy for nearly 50 years, the habit of reading, memorizing and posting has long been integrated into Feng Huochun's life. Even when traveling on business, he never stopped reading posts, repeatedly pondering the layout of the famous calligraphy and the penmanship techniques, taking its essence.
For the famous posters and fonts that he focuses on, he must be familiar with his brain and inscribed in his heart every time he has contact, "Only by becoming a living dictionary of calligraphy can he achieve flexible use and go out as he pleases." As for the Linti, he immersed himself in the "Second King's" "Tang Huairen Collection Wang Xizhi Sacred Order", "Shenlong Ben Lanting Preamble", "Fast Snow Qing Ti", "Mid-Autumn Festival" and "Dihuang Tang Ti", Ouyang Qian's "Yellow Emperor Yin Rune Sutra", "Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra", "Relic Record", "Jiucheng Palace Liquan Ming", "Huadu Temple Stele" and other posts, and the calligraphy and the xingshu went hand in hand. In particular, the works such as "Orchid Pavilion Order", "Holy Religious Order", "Jiucheng Palace", and "Huadu Temple Stele" that he wrote have reached the level of both gods and forms, and have been praised by famous artists.
In recent years, Feng Huochun's calligraphy works have been exhibited in many awards in the whole army and national calligraphy competitions, especially his "Orchid Pavilion Preface" and "Sacred Religious Order" are highly respected by calligraphy enthusiasts. Many of his works have been given as diplomatic gifts to foreign friends, and have been collected by national military organs, cultural and museum institutions, and celebrities.
In view of Feng Huochun's artistic achievements in calligraphy, not only are there an endless stream of seekers, but also the auction record of his calligraphy works is constantly improving. In 2021 alone, Feng Huochun has four works participating in the auction, the calligraphy "Lanting Preface" participated in the Rongbaozhai Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting Art Online Auction, which sold for 25,000 yuan; the calligraphy "Peach Blossom Origin" participated in the Rongbaozhai Spring Festival Art Auction and sold for 57,500 yuan; the calligraphy "Yueyang Louji" participated in the Rongbaozhai Autumn Art Auction for 150,000 yuan; the calligraphy "Lanting Order" participated in the Poly International Autumn Auction for 115,000 yuan.
On the long road of calligraphy study, Feng Huochun has always been down-to-earth and strives to comprehensively enhance cultural accomplishment. He believes that to become a well-known calligrapher, you should first become a calligraphy theorist and connoisseur. Therefore, Feng Huochun paid special attention to improving the level of calligraphy theory. He first systematically studied the "General Theory of Calligraphy" compiled by Ding Wenjun and the "Brief History of Chinese Calligraphy" compiled by Zhong Mingshan, and then combined it with the "Chinese Calligraphy Dictionary", "Cursive Dictionary", "Four-Body Dictionary", "Li Debate" and "Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Appreciation Dictionary" to do comparative research, understand the evolution process of Chinese characters, grasp the formation characteristics of seal calligraphy, Han Li, Wei Bei, Zheng Kai, and Xingcao, effectively use calligraphy theory to guide the practice of calligraphy creation, and take the traditional calligraphy road in a down-to-earth manner.
