Fu Fei said that many years ago, he decided to absorb the nourishment of writing in the land where he lived, so he once again went to his birthplace, Zhengfang, a small town in the north of Shangrao City.
During the year, he spent about a third of his time living in the village, walking and deliberating with the villagers. In the village, he is not an observer of life, nor a fielder, but a long-lived person who lives as a villager.
For 20 years, he has traveled to the corners of the village (an area of about 20 square kilometers), investigated the living conditions of wild animals, visited hundreds of craftsmen, seriously ill patients, widowers, divorcees, gamblers, alcoholics, entrepreneurs, veterans, and collected local classics from the scattered folk.
